Broken Window at Fainting Goat Gelato

Julie Martin March 24, 2021 2 Comments

Some of you may have seen the window of Fainting Goat Gelato on 45th Street was broken by a rock last weekend. Fortunately, they are all patched back up, but they could use our support. I exchange messages with owner Yalcin Ataman and he expressed how the pandemic has impacted their business, making it harder to stay open.

I stopped by tonight to grab a couple of pints and remembered the neat connection to history they have – a creamery once occupied the space they are in. …

Fiesta Night! Support Local School & Business

Julie Martin March 20, 2021 Comments are off

If you are like me, Friday night often means supporting a local business and getting takeout. Next Friday night, we offer you a unique opportunity to start the weekend off with a great meal AND a chance to support Wallingford’s own St. Benedict School.

Thanks to Pecado Bueno (just down the road in Fremont) and It’s All Good Catering, you can order a delicious Mexican dish with fun additions such as a jug of margaritas or chocolate chip cookies (do I have your attention yet?) with 30% of the proceeds benefiting St. Ben’s.

Place your order using the instructions below …

If you have missed the nice cutover to Ballard via Green Lake Way, you may be in luck – partially, anyway. Sometime soon, they are planning to open one-way travel southbound on W Green Lake Way [still closed as of Monday, 3/1].

Due to the lead time in ordering materials to protect the users of the Keep Moving Street (on the northbound …

Last Act for Kids on 45th Consignment Store?

Julie Martin March 7, 2020 22 Comments

You may remember how we welcomed Elise Worthy as the new owner of Kids on 45th back in 2017. Elise and team have transformed the store with a fresh look, new ways to consign and community events.

In the note sent to consignors below, Elise has made the difficult decision to step down and close the store at the end of March. Like Susan before her, she would love to pass the baton to a new owner and keep the store going. So, consider this an invitation! If you or someone else in the community would like to explore this …

Julie Martin June 6, 2019 Comments are off

As our city continues to grow and evolve, Wallingford hosts many historic gems. This week, the artifact comes in the form of some energetic and educated teenagers. We join with the community of St. Benedict School in celebrating the graduation of its 110th class of 8th-grade students.

A look back…

St. Benedict School opened in September 1908 by two Sisters of the Dominican Sisters of Edmonds, Sister Mary Vincentia Murphy and Sister M. Josephine Ratte, who lived at Holy Angels Academy in Ballard and walked to and from school.

St. Benedict had an inaugural enrollment of 66 students that …
