Shannon November 10, 2010 3 Comments

Who doesn’t enjoy a classic homemade spaghetti dinner–and wait–you don’t even have to cook!

You are cordially invited to St. Benedict School’s (4811 Wallingford Ave North) Spaghetti Dinner, Sunday, November 14, 11am-7pm.  The 6th Grade Class will be dishing up dinner from scratch and are ready to host neighbors, family, and friends.  There will be delicious food, prizes, and a raffle.  All proceeds from this event will support the 6th Grade Science and Environmental Camp at Camp Hamilton.  Margaret took her family to the spaghetti dinner last March and wrote a rave review.  This is something you won’t want to …

Stone Soup Theater’s Latest Who-dunnit

Shannon October 28, 2010 Comments are off

Tonight, Stone Soup Theater (4035 Stone Way North) will preview its newest production — The Real Inspector Hound and The Boundary, a “play within a play” comedy murder-mystery, directed by Zachariah Robinson.  The production will run Thursdays through Sundays beginning tonight (10/28), until November 21.

Here’s a summary from Stone Soup:

Two theatre critics, Birdboot & Moon attend a performance of a British, ‘who-dunnit.’  The mystery is set in the 1920’s at a weekend party at Muldoon Manor, where ‘all roads lead in, but not out’.  The party guests assemble for bridge and the police announce on the radio that …

Toy Swap ‘n’ Sale

Shannon October 27, 2010 Comments are off

On a daily basis I look around my house and wonder why I have multiple bins, toy chests, and baskets full of toys.  I try to conquer and organize, but the task is endless.  Just yesterday I went through my son’s toys and got a bag together to donate, eliminating some of the clutter while thinking that the amount of toys my kid winds up with is astonishing, and it’ll just continue to grow if I don’t take a stand.  Seems now I have an easy solution to my child’s toy hoarding issues:  the CoolMom Holiday Toy Swap ‘N’ Sale…

Helping those in need: Wallingford House

Shannon October 26, 2010 Comments are off

Wallyhood reader Kimberly C. writes:

With all the discussion going on about homelessness and Wallingford, I thought maybe it would be nice to feature some of the organizations in Wallingford that provide services to the homeless. The ones I know about are: FamilyWorks/Solid Ground and the 45th Street Clinic. Perhaps a volunteer profile as well? Seems like a lot of interest in what is being done locally and organizations to support other than SHARE.

Thanks, Kimberly

We thought this was a grand idea, and so we wanted to take some time and do a little research to profile each …

It’s that time of year to start planning your ghoulish Halloween events. Get in the Wallingford spirit and make it a Green Halloween?  This year Wallingford has made it easy for our community to partake in this nationwide phenomena.  Green Halloween will be occurring locally at Wallingford Center and other surrounding businesses, Sunday, October 31,  from 3-5pm.

It will be easy to spot the businesses involved, as they’ll have Green Halloween signs posted in their windows.  Businesses that are contributing to Green Halloween will be handing out healthy goodies or recyclable/reusable toys. Parents who want to join in on the …

Golden Olive is Golden Again

Shannon October 14, 2010 2 Comments

Last weekend, as I perused the Wallyhood forums, I read about Golden Olive–the quaint, Greek restaurant that’s tucked away on 45th, next to City Cellars.  After being closed for nearly two months for a remodel, Golden Olive re-opened last Thursday.  Between the enthusiasm in the forums, a tip from reader Paul B., and Mr. Wallyhood’s review back in August ’09,  I was intrigued.

The restaurant’s cozy atmosphere made me feel as though I was sitting in my own dining room, surrounded by family photos on the wall and the smell of dinner cooking in the kitchen.

We were greeted by …
