Chickadees Preschool Open House…Come One…Come All

Shannon October 7, 2010 2 Comments

As a mother, I know that there is a stress that comes naturally with finding that perfect preschool.  Parents start planning what school their child is going to attend before they are even born, and I have heard the rumors of parents enrolling their children in preschool three years before they are ready to attend.  Well, I can honestly say that I don’t have that much motivation; but if you are looking for that one school that is different from the rest, here it is, Chickadees Preschool.

All parents, children, and neighbors are invited to the Chickadees Preschool at Tara’s …

Does Your Dog Need Training…Or Perhaps You Do?

Shannon October 6, 2010 3 Comments

On a typical evening I’m found dealing with the constant hustle and bustle of the week, hurrying to get dinner served, and my son off to bed, while mentally preparing myself for the couple of hours I get to absorb on my own.  However, last Monday night I was allowed into what appeared to be a secret society of dogs and their owners, right here in Wallingford at 4015 Stone Way North.

Susan Oshie, the owner of Paws 4 Training was thrilled to welcome me into her studio for a look into her local dog training business.  After more than …

Take Back The Bridge

Shannon September 29, 2010 6 Comments

Did you know that the Aurora Bridge has the second highest suicide rate for a bridge in the nation, just behind the Golden Gate Bridge? In 1932 the Aurora Bridge was marked as a National Historic Landmark named the George Washington Memorial Bridge; but, sadly, today it is known because of its suicide rate.

According to the Take Back The Bridge Project, one person a month attempts suicide on the Aurora Bridge, on average. The organization is asking the community to take a stand against this deadly trend because, they write, “It’s not just the hopeless and their families who …

Costume Swapsies!

Shannon September 27, 2010 2 Comments

Closet getting full with Halloween costumes that are either too small or too big? Perhaps you’re just too tired of being a “sexy cat” year after year?

Well, we know it’s slightly beyond the neighborhood, but this is definitely worth mentioning:  in the spirit of promoting a Green Halloween , beginning this Friday, October 1, Whole Foods will be collecting gently used Halloween costumes for the National Costume Swap Day in exchange for a ticket to pick out a “new-to-you” costume at their Green Halloween Costume Swap on October 9, 12 pm – 3 pm.  One tickets will be distributed …

Got Drugs?

Shannon September 23, 2010 1 Comment

If you are like me, you have a medicine cabinet overflowing with random prescriptions that have either been expired for years or unused, which are taking up needed space.  Does this qualify as a medication hoarder?  I sure hope not; but finally there is an answer to how to safely dispose of these unwanted prescriptions and over-the-counter medications.

The Seattle Police Department (SPD) is participating in National Drug Take-Back Day Saturday, September 25th, 10am-2pm.

According to the Seattle Police Department, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and SPD are participating in the Take-Back Initiative, which has been designed to prevent …
