Cathy Tuttle will be holding an artist reception at Mosaic (4401 2nd Ave NE) tonight from 7 - 9 pm and her work will be hanging there for the next month. Of it, she says: Why these paintings? It was really hot in Seattle in July so I painted windmills and icebergs to cool off Mosaic. I lived in Sweden for a year in 2006-2007 and traveled around northern Europe studying sustainable city planning. Most of the windmills you see are…

Kites!

DOUG. tipped us off to an event going on until 8 pm tonight at Gas Works Park. From Seattle Magazine: If passing through Gas Works Park isn’t part of your normal Wednesday routine, you may want to make it so this Wednesday, 9/9. Master Kite Flyer Seth Abramson will be flying 121 elegant white kites over the park. More art installation than childhood whim, Abramson and his piece of performance art will be sure to leave you breathless.

Wallingford Art Walk Tonight

We almost forgot: tonight is Wallingford Art Walk, and it's the second to last one of 2009, so don't miss it. Unfortunately, this one snuck up on us a bit, so we aren't sure exactly who's showing where, but we do know that if you stroll down 45th Street, you'll see your neighbors moseying from shop to shop, eating noshes and sipping wines and you can them where the good stuff is. And for certain, the Old Dog & the New…

This post is NOT about Seattle Mosaic Arts. We've got one coming, but our poor planning left us storyless on that front for today. ' We'd been told that they'd opened a shop on 46th and Interlaken N, so we decided to pop our heads in yesterday. Along the way, we bumped into well-known Wallingford terror Lynn Freeman, her paramour Shapeshifter (who, we were happy to learn, is back playing with Marmalade at their regular ToST gigs), their friend Sasha and…

Sign Wonderfulness

Thanks to a bit of community reporting, we bring you photos of guerrilla art from 39th and Bagley. Christina e-mailed us yesterday and asked if  we had seen the "most excellent signs at 39th and Bagley". We had not! And our schedule prevented us from making a foray over there to investigate. So we sent out a plea to Twitter: anyone with a camera near 39th and Bagley, please send us shots of what we're missing. Shortly thereafter, Lee sent us…

PARK(ing) Day

We'd like to draw your attention to a recent post in the the Wallyhood Forums. Elaine writes: I live in Wallingford and am volunteering for an organisation called Feet First. Currently I am working on an event called PARKing Day which is all about taking a car parking spot and turning it into a mini park for the day for people to enjoy. The concept is about getting people to think about the use of urban space and the dominance of…

An Oasis of Art

Usually, when we talk about Wallingford Art Walk, we focus on Wallingford's hub, centered around 45th and Wallingford. This month, we'd like to remind you that there are several spots further afield that participate. Maybe you live near them and want something closer to home, or maybe it's time to stray a bit from the beaten path. For example, Oasis Art Gallery is down at 3644 Wallingford Ave and conveniently located next door to Cantinetta: fine art and fine food, perhaps?…
