Wurst Festival

It says something that no less than five people e-mailed us today to make sure we knew that the free Wallingford Wurst Festival is happening this weekend, and not one of those people are involved in putting it on, just excited attendees. That said, we're not quite sure whether Sara was encouraging us, warning us or threatening us when she said "Wait 'til next year when Baby Z will want to go through the bouncy house at least 20 times!" Happy Leaving PARK-ing Day (Paul Dorpat guest post)

(Last week, we reported that Wallingford's resident Lorax Nancy Merrill spear-headed a PARK-ing Day parking spot take-over. This week, Wallingford's resident Herodotus Paul Dorpat tells the tale.) I’m posting this to our cherished Wallyhood to share my admiration for Nancy “Appleseed” Merrill, a Wallyhood star for certain: artist, author, tree planter and steward, and resident of Wallingford for 20 years. Lower Wallingford: It’s Gonna Be Loud Tonight

This report sent in by Lower Wallingford Correspondent, Chris Witwer. What is up with the sound stage & loud electric music on Wallingford Avenue, just below 34th?  It seems that the little cul de sac there has been blocked off with "road closed" signs and a music stage has been erected. PARKing Day Friday

It's almost upon us! Back in early August, we told you about PARKing day, the now yearly event where people across the country put the "park" in "parking space", reclaiming them as mini-landscaped art projects. At least one Wallingford group, including Nancy "Lorax" Merrill and Stuart "Folkstore" Herrick, has taken up the banner and will be greening up a spot just north of 42nd and Latona Thackery this Friday, September 18th. Lester Goldstein has written up this proclamation: PROCLAMATION Whereas reliable…

Joyería

One of our private giggles when traveling to Spanish speaking countries is spotting the joyerías. It looks like there are all these shops selling joy. What a great idea! Actually, they're selling jewelry, which is also a pretty good idea. And this weekend, you don't have to stray much more than a half of a block from the famous Rancho Brava taco truck to find a great, impromptu joyeria. Silversmith Sacha Nanay has been visiting Wallingford from Taxco, Guerrerro, Mexico (a…
