Wallingford #4 in Walk Bike Ride Challenge

Some weeks back, we told you about SDOT's Walk Bike Ride Challenge, and how they've added a little more fun to it by pitting neighborhoods against one another. Well, here's how we fare so far: overall, we're ranked #4--with Ballard in the lead, followed by Queen Anne, and PhinneyWood. Here's the breakdown: #4 for number of trips switched to walking, biking or riding #4 for miles of driving saved #4 for number of participants signed up. 4,327 miles of driving saved…

Help get a neighborhood bike rack for Fuerte Fitness

Update 7/25: we made a correction to this story, since we were told that the Mayor is only taking personal training sessions at Fuerte Fitness, and is not contributing toward the purchase of a bike rack in any way. When Fuerte Fitness owner Adriana Medina asked the City to install a bike rack in front of the gym, she was surprised that SDOT turned her down. Under SDOT's "Bicycle Spot Improvement Program" business owners can apply for a free bike rack…

Wallingford Neighborhood Greenway Update

"Whaaat?" you ask. "I don't remember any discussion about a 'Neighborhood Greenway!' Nope, that's because back in January we told you that efforts were underway to plan and develop a bike boulevard in Wallingford, thanks to Cathy Tuttle of Spokespeople and SDOT (Seattle Department of Transportation) for funding. Well, a few things have changed since then, especially the term "bike boulevard" since this proposed dedicated east/west passageway applies not only to bicyclists but pedestrians as well, hence the new term: Neighborhood…

(Wallyhood welcomes new contributor Madi Carlson, who is normally out and about schlepping kids around by bike in Seattle, but will be sleeping soundly during the Nine to Five) Want to celebrate the summer solstice on your bike, but find the Solstice Parade too naked and/or daylight-y? You're in luck because Go Means Go is hosting their third annual sunset-to-sunrise bicycle solstice scavenger hunt, the Nine to Five: The Nine to Five is a bike event unlike all others in Seattle.…
