Meowtropolitan is Ten Years Old

Cat cafés have become a global sensation, filling social media feeds with images of charming felines soaking up attention from delighted visitors. What many may not realize, however, is that Wallingford is home to its very own cat café. Conveniently located near the intersection of N 45th Street and Stone Way N, Meowtropolitan offers a welcoming and thoughtfully designed space where humans and cats can connect. Founded in 2015, Meowtropolitan was established with a clear mission: to provide a calm, stress-free…

The Solution To Your Late Night Munchie Problems

I think we all know the feeling of stumbling home in the small hours after a great night out, only to find the freezer devoid of ice cream and the pantry empty of fresh-baked cookies. Whereas in the past I might have satisfied myself with some old pretzel bites or stale cashews, I am now excited to learn that these delights are only a few clicks away, or even a few blocks away if I feel like an evening stroll. Midnight…

Happy Meow-ther’s Day!

Looking for something different to do with Mom that is guaranteed to lower everyone's stress level? Treat her to a day out at Seattle Meowtropolitan, Seattle's first cat cafe, where today's visit is 15% off and includes 50 minutes with kitties and a cafe beverage! I had a chance to pounce in mid-afternoon this week, after bemusedly walking by for months.  While booking my online appointment, I was advised that I may not get a lot of interaction as 2 PM is prime cat nap time. Regardless, entering the tranquil lounge was a…

Tutu Tuesday at Irwin’s

I just discovered Tutu Tuesday at the Wallingford Irwin's Bakery and Cafe (2123 N 40th St). I'm late to the ball--it's been happening since November. It started with one Halloween costume and grew from there, including several handmade tutus and a lovely rainbow tutu donated by a customer. There's even a contingent of tiny regulars whose parents bring them clad in tutus, though I wasn't lucky enough to see them this Tuesday. And that's all there is to it! No special…

The Gypsy Java Café Lives! (For Now!)

Update Friday, November 9, 12:41pm: Ira Gerlich of Evolution Projects replied to my email to confirm that the deal between Evolution Projects and the Gypsy Java Café fell through. Although he didn't go much into detail, he did write, "We are really happy to have the Gypsy back right now and we wish the Gypsy the best and hope that things are back up and running smoothly." I stopped by The Fremont Collective today for the evo store preview this morning (more…

Wallingford Tully’s to close on Sunday

The Seattle Times reports that Tully's Coffee has filed for bankruptcy protection and plans to close 9 company-run stores this Sunday, including the Wallingford location (2100 N. 45th St.). CEO Scott Pearson told the Times, “We’re at a point where we need to position Tully’s for the future." “We need to be able to keep this company operating, and this is the best option for us.” Thanks to Paul who sent us the tip, adding, "Sucks, because the 45th/Meridian location was a very…
