Meaningful Movies: ‘The House I Live In’

Every Friday night for the last nine years, neighbors in our community have been showing free screenings of "Meaningful Movies" that cover issues around social justice, followed by an open community discussion about the evening's topic. The screenings take place at the Keystone Congressional Church (5029 Keystone Avenue N.) from 7:00pm to 9:30PM. Many times, the organizers bring in advocates about the issues presented in the evening's film, or the filmmakers themselves will stop by for a Q&A session after the…

Medical Marijuana comes to Wallingford

Last week, we learned via Wallyhood Forums that a new business named "GMG" had moved into the other half of the building that Cutz Meridian operates out of.  We sent out guest blogger, Annie Mouse, to check it out.  Thanks, Annie! Grasshopper Medical Group (GMG) is now open in Wallingford, at 4515 Meridian Avenue North, Suite A -- next to Cutz Meridian and just behind Murphy's Irish Pub. I dropped by recently and was met at the door by two very…

Wallingford Cannabis Farmers Market Shut Down

Wallyhood introduces a new guest blogger, who we'll call "Annie" here.  She's our little anonymous mouse, guest blogging about the Seattle Cannabis Farmer's Market in Wallingford.  Welcome, Annie Mouse! Stoned Soup

We were chatting with our friend D. the other day, who mentioned he had recently attended a performance at Stone Soup Theatre's production of How I Learned To Drive, by Paula Vogel. Hey, it's a gem. We stopped in there, pretty baked one night last week, just on a…

July 4: The View From Up Here

Traffic along Wallingford Avenue, above 40th Street, began to build by 11:00 a.m.   As I mowed my lawn, I marveled over the families that hauled their blankets, coolers, chairs, strollers, and kids 8 blocks down the hill.  By 3:00 p.m. the rain pretty much put the kibosh on my yard work, and the steady stream of people tapered down to a trickle.  But around 6:00 p.m., the thickening crowd resumed their pilgrimage to Lake Union. During a dinner party at my…

Notes from the Playground – What’s that Smell?

(Sharon continues her Notes from the Playground series) We took the kids to the park this afternoon to enjoy the last days of summer (ok, fall). Per my son’s request, we split up before heading in. He and I took the south entrance near Hamilton Middle School and my husband and daughter went in by the wading pool. As I approached the merry go round, I saw my husband snicker. He walked over to me and asked if I could smell…
