Celebrate Local Food & Urban Farming at Seattle Tilth’s Harvest Fair

Seattle Tilth's annual Harvest Fair can be described as a country fair in the city. It started as the only neighborhood farmers market back in the 1988, connecting city folks to the bounty of food from local farmers. Today it brings together some of Seattle's best qualities: tasty local food, live music, a bustling organic farmers market, urban farm activities and a chance to enjoy one of Seattle's great parks in our own neighborhood with lush gardens managed by Seattle Tilth.…

2015 CSA Round-up (abridged)

Ah Spring! The season when we can finally lift our eyes from dreary salads of bagged lettuce and styrofoam tomatoes and dream of the tender greens, blushing rhubarb and sweet, all-the-way-ripe strawberries that will soon be heading our way from Washington's farms. I'm not talking about the California-style industrial operations; I'm talking about the 'little guys' all around the Puget Sound region, who farm like they give a damn and go the extra mile to sell their just-harvested produce directly to you. I'm talking…

Wallingford Farmers Market Opens Wednesday

The 2013 Wallingford Farmers Market season kicks-off this Wednesday (May 29) at Meridian Park, from 3:30PM to 7:00PM. (with chef hours from 3-3:30PM). Seems to me, despite some initial skepticism, that the Meridian Park location has been a good fit for the market, as the park provides more space for more vendors, and serves as a destination for shoppers, picnickers, and families alike. In fact, the new location was one of the reasons why  Washington State Farmers Market Association named Wallingford the…

Easy Street Band at Meridian Park

You won't want to miss the Wallingford Farmers Market next Wednesday, August 29 at Meridian Park when the Easy Street Band plays, from 6:00pm - 8:00pm. Enjoy the swinging sounds of this family friendly, 9-piece jazz band while you picnic at the park with all the goodies you bought at the Farmers Market. Donations will be taken at the event for the cost of the band, and Wallingford's Chamber of Commerce president, Colleen Kurke, is asking if anyone has a small generator…

A Quick Dip on the Way to the Farmer’s Market

(Wallyhood welcomes Kimberly Christensen to our writing corps. If you'd like to join her, let us know!) As any good Wallingfordian knows, sunny + 70 = summer! Happily, today's lovely weather coincides with the opening of Wallingford's wading pool. The Wallingford wading pool will be open Wednesday-Saturday from noon to 7 pm through August 17th. As you may remember, the Saturday hours are made possible by Ask.com, which awarded them to three Seattle wading pools following a contest in May. So,…

The Wallingford Farmers Market season kicks-off on Wednesday, May 30 from 3:30-7:00PM and is open every Wednesday (except July 4) through September 26. This is the second year the Farmers Market will be located at Meridian Park (Meridian Avenue N. at N. 50th St.). This year, Sky Valley Farm and Skagit River Ranch are joining the market to sell fresh eggs. A Chefs Only market returns this year which takes place from 3:00PM-3:30PM every Wednesday.  There will also be cooking demonstrations by…

Wallingford Farmers Market

Hey, remember that hullaballoo about where the Wallingford Farmers Market was going to end up? Would it be Wallingford Center? The street to the west? Over by QFC's parking lot? Near Musashi and (heaven forfend) The Drum Exchange? So, it ended up in Meridian Park, which, doomsaysers predicted, would be its death. (OK, we admit it: we might have had a little doomsay in us, as well). How's it doing, you wonder? Actually, smashingly. We've stopped by a few Wednesdays this…
