Farmers Market

It's Wednesday, which means today is the Wallingford Farmers Market, newly relocated to Meridian Park, just to the west of the Good Shepherd Center. The consensus from all those we heard from was that it's a nice improvement over the old location: there are 50% more vendors to choose from, the adjoining playground is great break if you have kids, and the grassy field and surrounding trees give the whole thing a bucolic feel. Our take last week was fairly slender…

Wallingford Farmer’s Market: How’s the new location?

Despite the afternoon rain, the Wallingford Farmer's Market made its seasonal debut at the new Meridian Park location. Chris Witwer and Jordan Schwartz both had a chance to check it out and here's what they had to say about it: From Chris: The setting is very nice, almost pastoral.  Quiet and tucked away from the traffic noise coming from 45th. A spacious, relaxing venue. There was some mud due to the rain, but not so much that the grass cover wasn't…

Farmers Market Meridian-Bound

Can you think of anything more small town America than the editor of the local newspaper getting his news about the farmers market while getting his hair clipped at the local barbershop by the head of the local chamber of commerce? I swear, if Opie had walked in barefoot with a PB&J on white bread, Normanl Rockwell would have risen from his grave to paint it. Of course, it's not a newspaper, it's a blog, and Cutz Meridian isn't a barbershop,…

Local, Organic Produce Delivered to Wallingford

The fate of the Wallingford Farmers Market remains in doubt. Whole Foods (aka "Whole Paycheck") recently capitulated to Monsanto's drive to genetically engineer pesticides into our food supply. What's a lefty, organic-food-lovin' locavore to do? Go CSA, of course! CSA's (Community Supported Agriculture) are farms or groups that will deliver (mostly) locally grown produce to you on a regular basis based on what's in season. You're not going to get strawberries in December, but that's just as well: eating local doesn't…

Wallingford Farmers Market Options

This past Wednesday, the Farmers Market association presented the options under consideration for placement of the Wallingford Farmers Market, which can not continue at Wallingford Center. Sadly, we were not there to enjoy the discussion. Fortunately, though, Zach Lyons from the Farmers Market Association e-mailed us the list of sites under consideration. They are: Lincoln High School lots (green): This is parking lot behind the Tilth, Smash, the Chili Pepper, etc. This seems like the best option to us, as it…

Farmers Market

We're not quite sure what it says about Wallingford that the biggest kerfuffle we've got going is on whether and where to put a Farmers Market. Nice, ya know? Some places, everyone's up in each other's grill about abortion rights, immigration, health care and gun control, but in Wallingford, it's radicchio and rutabaga that gets everyone hot under the collar. Well, the saga continues. Zach Lyons alerts us that there will be a community meeting tomorrow, Wednesday January 19th from 7:00 -…
