Wallingford Farmers Market Moving

Trust us when we tell you that we've spared you sturm und drang and bring you straight to the happy conclusion (for now). The Wallingford Farmers Market has known for some time now that its home in the parking lot south of Wallingford Center was temporary: a number of Wallingford Center businesses resented the loss of the parking spaces they were promised as part of their lease and, in any case, the area set aside for the market simply wasn't big…

Wallingford Wednesday – 90°

Lots going on in Wallingford this Wednesday, so make yourself comfortable: First off, the weather report says it's supposed to get up to 90° F. That's nine-zero frickin' degrees! In Seattle! So everything else that we list below is just going to be double-awesome. Wednesday, as it is all summer, is Wallingford Farmer's Market at Wallingford Center, 3 - 7 pm. We're not going to list what all is ripe and in season this week because everything is ripe and in…

Epazotes at Today’s Farmers Market

Good morning to you! It's Wednesday, and that means Farmers Market in Wallingford Center (1815 N 45th St.) from 3 - 7 pm. Between you, we and the wall, we've been a bit disappointed with the selection we've seen thus far this year, but we'll chalk it up to time of year: if you're selling what's in season, you can only sell what's in season, and it's early yet. From a quick glance at the market report, it seems like things…

Farmers Market Today

Get out your reusable canvas bags and your walking shoes and head on over to the Wallingford Center today, Wednesday the 27th from 3 - 7 pm for 2010's second installment of the weekly Farmers Market. At 4 pm, you'll be treated to a cooking demonstration by Wallingford's own Amy McCray of Eva Restaurant. We don't know what she'll be preparing, but we did notice on their web site that they feature a special menu on Saturdays and Sundays drawn from…

Water, Water Everywhere at Farmers Market

After a morning of unnaturally bright sunshine and ominous radio warnings of thunderstorms, rain- and 50-knot wind-advisories, my daughter and I set off for the first day of the Wallingford Farmers Market with umbrellas and trepidation. We arrived on the dot at 4 for Rachel Yang of Joule Restaurant's cooking demonstration.  Asparagus was clearly the ingredient of the day (imagine cooking this on a hotplate under a tent): Asparagus Pesto and Smoked Salmon on Hominy Toast Asparagus, Purple Potato, Cheese Curd…

Farmers Market Update

Nothing concrete to report on where, when and whether the Wallingford Farmers Market will return next year, but some comments from those involved. First, we checked in with Zach Lyons, the Communications Director for the Seattle Farmers Market Association (and brother of well-known folk musician Dana Lyons, of "Cows with Guns" fame). Here's what he had to say: We are currently negotiating for a site for the 2010 Wallingford Farmers Market, but as of this moment, nothing is set in stone.…

Wallingford Farmers Market in doubt?

We just read in the Wallingford eNewsletter (put out by the Wallingford Neighborhood Office) that the Wallingford Farmers Market won't be returning to Wallingford Center this coming year. A new location in Wallingford is being discussed, apparently (Good Shepherd Center)? They're also discussing changing the day of the week from Wednesday (Saturday?)
