Halloween at Wallingford Center

Bring your little ghosts and goblins (or in my case, Super Mario and Princess Peach) to Wallingford Center on Halloween (Monday, October 31) from 4-7pm for some tricks and treats, Wally style. Before you head out, check the pantry to see if you've got any non-perishable food items to donate for the center's 5th Annual Fall Food Drive, which will benefit FamilyWorks. See ya there!

Costume Sale for a Cause

Have you bought your Halloween costume yet, or will you be like the rest of us who sweat over it two days beforehand and are left with slim pickings to choose from? Fear not, fellow procrastinators, because there's a costume sale happening this Saturday (10/8) at Dance Fremont! (4015 Stone Way N., next to Pagliacci Pizza) from 10am-4pm. A costume sale at a ballet studio that holds performances all year long? Genius! Organizers say they'll have a wide assortment available that's suitable for…

Trick or Treat Report

We've been hearing from old sides that trick-or-treater turnout tonight was higher than previous years. We don't have a good frame of reference, since Baby Z is just turning two, so this was our first time hitting the streets from the collecting end, but it did seem like there were hordes of kids out. Chatting amongst the Wallyhood writers, Helen mentioned that "the merchants on 45th were running out of candy and we were totally cleaned out at home!  We had…

Wee Wally Halloween

Given that Wallingford has become the top spot for trick-or-treating for the second year in a row, your children's first priority is to exercise their right to demand candy from the neighbors. But since Halloween falls on a Sunday this year, there's lots of fun neighborhood activities all weekend long to help add to, and work off the sugar rush.  Here's what's in store for the kiddies of Wallingford: Friday, October 29 Oom Yung Doe (4319 Stone Way):  Halloween Safety Workshop…

Wally-ween Weekend – For Grownups

(Updated 4:12 p.m.) Since Halloween falls on a Sunday this year, it's become an Über holiday--jam-packed with activities all weekend long--kinda giving people more bang for their buck in the costume department.  Now at least you can justify getting that cat suit cleaned before wearing it.  Better hurry though, because we've found a ton of activities for grownups, including lots of costume parties and contests.(Parents, don't worry, we'll cover the Halloween festivities for the Wally-wee set in a separate post!) Friday,…

Hive Mind Halloween

Fifteen years ago, we hosted a little Halloween party at our house here in Wallingford. We called it Hive Mind Halloween and 15 or 20 friends showed up. Great costumes, good time. The next year, a few more people came, and a few more the year after that, until, by 2004, we topped 400 people, which is considerably more than a little Wallingford craftsmen is meant to hold, even with two floors, a full basement and a big back yard. To…

Don’t Surrender to the Fearists

  • Post author:

Wallingford, it is your moral and civic duty to hand out candy to the children of strangers next week. Parents, if you do not let your children go door to door at your neighbors' houses collecting goodies, you are surrendering all that is good and dear in America to the fearists. Yes, the fearists! Like terrorists, fearists undermine our society by sowing distrust and uncertainty everywhere we go. Fearists don't bomb buildings, but they still chip away at the things that…
