So what all is going on special in Wallingford this Valentine's Day? We already mentioned that you can tan yourself crispy for free at Tropical Tan, but did you know that Fuel has "heart-shaped Flipsides, Piepops (pie lollipops!), and our as-seen-on-TV Slab Pie!"? Put in your special order for those by Friday at 5 pm for Saturday or Sunday pick-up. And, course, the restaurants are getting in the lovin' game, too. Avila is offering a special menu for Valentine's that includes…

Bad Wig / Ugly Track Suit

Yesterday, we covered what's going on New Year's Eve in Wallingford, but what about New Year's Day? For ourselves, we're planning on hitting the Polar Bear Plunge at Matthews Beach at noon on the 1st, but if we get the shivers, we may just slap a wig on, find ourselves the finest track suit we can, and head over to Green Lake. Says My Green Lake: "Meet at Noon, Friday January 1, 2010, at the Kiddie Wading Pool at Greenlake to…

What, no Chanukah?

We've been collecting a good list of holiday goings on, including some Christmas Eve services at local churches and New Year's Eve dinners at all the great Wallingford restaurants (if you've got anything to add to the list, which we'll be posting shortly, please leave it as a comment on our Holiday Haps post). Given all the Christmas and New Year's talk, it's been noted that we haven't mentioned Chanukah, which might seem odd given our decidedly Hebrew religious leanings, and…

So what's the holiday haps around the neighborhood? We gotta figure that a bunch of bars and restaurants will be having New Year's Eve specials, and probably a few churches are doing something interesting for Christmas. We'd be happy to compile and publish a list, but give us a hand here and let us know what's going on.

Up The Down Chimney

Here's a bit of small-town feeling holiday yumminess that's sure to be a winner. Paul Dorpat and crew are putting on their second annual Up The Down Chimney Christmas show, complete with readings, music and heart-warming merriness. Paul writes: Here's something a mother might enjoy.  Starts at 7:30, next Tuesday evening [December , it is the second annual use of the Good Shepherd Center Chapel for our not yet popular Christmas show, "Up The Down Chimney." Those attending during last year's…

Santa Comes to Woodlawn Ave.

For about fifteen years now, Sharon and Fred Ehrig @ 3916 Woodlawn have put together one of the most spectacular yard displays of Christmas lights in Wallingford.  With 15,000 lights, reindeer (with personlized saddles), snowmen, candy canes, a rubber ducky gate, teddy bears and elves -- you just gotta see this house. And the best part -- Santa.  Santa visits the porch every night from 5-9pm through December 23rd.  He hopes to stay until 11pm on the 23rd so everyone who…
