Toddler for Sale?

Really, the story here isn't "Depraved couple tries to give away toddler on Craigslist", it's "person with sick sense of humor pulls one over on gullible Orting man", and we wouldn't even report it, except that the title of the offending post is "Free Toddler to a Good Home (Wallingford)". The SeattleCrime blog reports that Seattle's Internet Crimes Against Children unit is investigating a Craigslist posting purporting to be from a Wallingford couple who, having tired of their four-year-old, are seeking…

Meet The New McDonald School Teachers

On Tuesday, June 15, parents and incoming students of the McDonald School will have a chance to meet the teachers.  The newly-formed McDonald School PTA is hosting an ice cream social at 6:30 p.m. on the McDonald School playground at 54th and Latona. And speaking of the PTA, over 50 new members joined the McDonald School Elementary PTA during its first meeting on Monday, June 7 -- an impressive turnout!  There's still an opportunity to join the PTA -- just bring…

Take this, for example, sent us by Julie Pellegrino Gilbert and the Playground Action Team of the John Stanford School PTA, along with the question "If you were a kid, what playground looks like more fun?" Now, there are no "right or wrong answers", unless you answered "the one on the left". That's wrong. The one on the right is way more fun. It's also more likely…

Kiddie Parade Still On

The Wallingford Kiddie Parade, heading into its 61st year and scheduled for July 10, 2010, hit a bump in the parade route recently, but thanks to an (ahem) authoritatively written e-mail from Wallingford's own Janet Stillman to the SDOT, the show goes on...this year, at least. Apparently, as part of a set of budget cuts, the city announced that they would not be paying for the cost of shutting down the streets for the parade (somewhere around $1,500 - $2,000), and…

Hamilton Construction Update

This month’s Hamilton Construction Update is brought to you in part by the word “accoutrement”, as in: the construction workers at Hamilton are putting in plants, light fixtures and other accoutrement on school grounds. This to me signals the beginning of the end; the light at the end of the tunnel. Hallelujah! Over the last few days it’s been interesting to watch the installation of plants, trees, and beautiful wrought iron fencing around the perimeter of the school.  My only comment…
