Wading pool, library affected by proposed city budget

Mayor Mike McGinn released his proposed city budget for 2011 – 2012 on Monday, addressing the $67 million dollar shortfall in the City’s General Fund for 2011.  The proposed budget calls for the Wallingford wading pool to operate on a three day per week schedule next summer, similar to this year’s schedule.  The closest wading pool to operate seven days per week will be Green Lake. The proposed budget also calls for reducing “on-site librarian reference service in order to achieve…

Answer Some Questions – Help the Library!

We will do almost anything in our house to help the Wallingford Branch of the Seattle Public Library.  So, taking a brief online survey doesn't seem like much to ask. It took me less than 10 minutes and it was informative! For example, did you know that the Library offers the following services (great tidbits for your next dinner party)?: Online magazines and newspapers (for example, Consumer Reports and the New York Times) - Skip those expensive subscriptions, save some trees!…

Despite the fact that we fended off Eyman's I-1033 disaster, there's still lots of budget trouble. The Mayor's 2010 budget makes some deep cuts, and the Friends of the Seattle Library are very worried about what it means for our library. Jennifer Johnson-Fong writes: As you may know, [Wallingford's] Library’s hours will drastically change if the Mayor’s proposed 2010 budget passes.  The proposed budget eliminates 17,160 public service hours per year and would impact your neighborhood directly with the closure of…

The Wallingford library branch has finished its remodel and re-opened! Jayanne writes: I dropped in to see the Wallingford branch library, which re-opened on September 8 after a two month closure for refurbishing.  The branch apparently now has a faster Internet connection, new carpet and paint, an additional computer, photocopier, a stand alone self-checkout station, and a refreshed large-print and paperback selection. The space also was apparently redesigned for more efficient workflow and ease of access (though I kind of miss…
