Wallingford Photo Snaps Shut

Denny tipped us off that Wallingford Photo Center, the little photo shop in the basement of the Wallingford Center, closed its doors for good as of New Year's Eve. According to their web site, they've been there since 1986. They were also one of the sponsors for our first photo contest back in January 2009, for which we are very grateful. Sorry to see a good business go. Back in December, we speculated that we might see more shop closing after…

Santa comes to Wallingford

My 4 year old has had a love-hate relationship with Department Store Santas for the past, well, four years. He’s super into the “real” Santa, of course, but only likes to admire the store Santas from afar. He particularly likes how Santa wears white gloves and never fails to mention them. “Oh, Mommy, see Santa? He’s waving just to me…with his white gloves.” We decided to do our first Santa visit of the season at Wallingford Center, by way of Mud…

Marcus Eaton @ Babalu

Sunday evening Babalu was host to Marcus Eaton, an extremely talented songwriter and guitar player.  Joined by Kevin Rogers on Drums, the duo played an intimate show to a very attentive audience.  The show was dynamic fusing Rock, Jazz, and Folk influences with finger picking, strumming, live guitar looping, a drum machine, and most importantly a My Little Pony.

Well, the long wait is over folks, and we hereby announce the winners: Also, because…

We know, we were supposed to close the judging and award the coffee for our "Wallingford in Autumn" photo contest, but quite frankly, we're lazy. So we're extending the contest through Friday. Or maybe Saturday. But after that, we're going to give away the two bags of coffee (delivered!) So, snap a photo of Wallingford in Autumn, post it as a comment here and you stand to win a bag of Wallingford-roasted Pangaea coffee. One to best overall, one to best…

Go Run or Go Zen

Paul Dorpat, neighborhood historian and itinerant photographer sent in a couple of beautiful shots from around the neighborhood to share: Paul wrote: In the fall - well all year long really - I refer to the trees along 44th between Burke and Wallingford as the "Flame Trees" and I have snapped them many times over the last four autumns.  The same is so for the Good Shepherd P-Patch.  The detail with the sophisticated rock path leading to two chairs and a…
