The Fremont Arts Council (FAC) is calling for volunteers and locals to participate in the annual Fremont Solstice Parade which has been declared a City of Seattle “City-Wide” event. This year’s historic parade scheduled for Saturday, June 18th in downtown Fremont has been been delighting crowds at the Center of the Universe with colorful floats, marching bands and the world famous painted Solstice Cyclists since 1989. eCycling and Threadcycling

You don't really appreciate how spoiled we are in Seattle until you travel: we recently took a trip to beautiful and progressive Sayulita, Mexico. There were organic grocery stores, gluten-free baked goods, and same-sex couples cuddling on park benches, but when it came time to dispose of our waste, there was just...one...can. One can? But where do I put my glass? My paper? My recyclable plastics? What about my compostable food waste?? Oh, the waste! Oh, the humanity! Look, Seattle, you…

Needles

Near the benches. I know a lot of parents let their kids climb that hill/trails or simply play over there (that's…

If you live in south Wallingford as I do, you probably pass by the site of the transfer station quite a bit on your way to Fremont and parts west. You remember the old transfer station, and you know that they're building a new one in more or less the same spot. But the project seems to be dragging on, and what were the specifics of that project, anyway? Time for another transfer station update! While most of us think of…

You may have noticed several new writers appearing here on Wallyhood over the past couple of weeks. This may be puzzling to you, as I announced back in January that I was turning the lights out on the blog. In the face of a Wallyhood blackout, a number of people from the Wallingford community offered to pitch in and make Wallyhood a shared community effort and resource. As it happens, this has always been my dream: that Wallyhood would become a collage of…

HALA Community Conversation @ Hamilton

(Wallyhood welcomes Jack McLaughlin as writer and editor.) I was fortunate to go shopping up at the QFC last Monday. I normally consider myself indifferent to the task and exact location of my shopping, but I ran into Max who was distributing flyers encouraging interested neighbors to attend the HALA Community Conversation taking place at the Hamilton School on Wednesday (March 30). I had heard rumblings about this, and Max's flyer provided the additional incentive I needed to attend. Since the…
