As they do every year, Dick’s Drive-In will be celebrating the anniversary by offering hamburgers priced as they were when they opened in 1954. The actual anniversary is January 28, but the drastically reduced-price burgers will be available over four days at different locations. Here in Wallingford, we will have the opportunity to enjoy a 19¢ burger at the place where it all began, the Dick’s on 45th, on Monday, January 26. Some details: Date: Monday, January 26 Time: Regular business…

Lincoln Playfields at Lower Woodland Park: An Update on Option A and Option C

It has been over a month since Wallyhood published a proposal by Friends of Lower Woodland Park, Lincoln Playfields Option C. Since that time, a very encouraging 265 neighbors have come forward to publicly reject Option A and endorse Option C. This is a phenomenal amount of feedback in the doldrums of a Seattle winter break, so thank you Wallingford! Friends of Lower Woodland Park are providing this update on what we have heard from Seattle Public Schools (SPS), details on…

Revive I-5 Project Update: Northbound I-5 Lane Reductions for Most of 2026

We knew it was coming, but now it’s here. But no, this week the real work began on the northbound lanes. According to WSDOT, “Northbound I-5 in Seattle is reduced to two lanes across the Ship Canal Bridge until June. The express lanes will remain open northbound-only 24 hours a day.” Here are…

The following story comes to us from Aly at Fremont Neighbor. The lunch time crowd at Figurehead Brewing. Photo by Alyson Teeter. When Bob Monroe and his partners at Figurehead Brewing started looking to expand beyond their original Magnolia location, they had a clear vision. They wanted a walkable neighborhood with foot traffic and to serve beer over the bar, creating connections with customers. What they found at 3513 Stone Way N was a pair of aging structures with potential. The…

Kostas Opa in Wallingford Now Open; Blue Star Closing

Happy New Year, everyone! I am pleased to report that after many months of closure, Kostas Opa Greek Restaurant, located at 1924 N 45th Street, is now back open for breakfast and lunch from 8 am–3 pm every day. I stopped by and met Kosta, the owner, and hostess Penny, who explained that they are doing a soft opening for the time being to reintroduce the restaurant to the neighborhood. They allowed me to take several pictures of the inside of…
