A new film, Seattle: 21st Century City, available on youtube and embedded below, explores Seattle’s struggles since the start of the new millennium, including the impact of crime on neighborhoods such as our own. Packed with archival photos and videos, the film is a step back in time to a Seattle that seems like another place somewhere else in the country. Narration is provided by residents who witnessed the radical changes that reshaped the city over the past two decades, and…

We had a nice turnout, given that it was Fat Tuesday as well as the night before Valentine’s Day. People who showed up were treated to the…

A reader recently emailed us to say that some person or persons had placed hearts along the planting strip (between the street and the sidewalk) all along Bagley between 41st and 43rd. An Uncomprehensive Hunt for Last Minute Valentines

Yesterday morning I set off in search of last-minute Valentines. What I encountered instead was a bit of heartbreak (and no elementary school valentines). My first stop was Bartell's where I thought I might find a box of Valentine's for my 4 & 6 year olds. Seeing the shelves of Bartell Drugs adorned with sale signs was a stark reminder of the store's closure that our neighborhood has been lamenting for a couple weeks now, but that was pale compared to…
