Revive I-5 Project Update: Northbound I-5 Lane Reductions for Most of 2026

We knew it was coming, but now it’s here. I have not been keeping up with the Revive I-5 project plan—I thought the southbound lanes were still being worked on, based on the schedule outlined in October. But no, this week the real work began on the northbound lanes. According to WSDOT, “Northbound I-5 in Seattle is reduced to two lanes across the Ship Canal Bridge until June. The express lanes will remain open northbound-only 24 hours a day.” Here are…

The Street Closure That Isn’t

As reported by Wallyhood back in December, the Department of Transportation has plans to add permanent planters and permanent signs supported by concrete bases to the Healthy Street closures along 44th and 43rd from Latona to Interlake. You know, those closures they did for the pandemic that never went away. The city plans on making those closures permanent. But should we?  I personally think they’re ineffective and a nuisance. But I wanted to know if I was the only one, so…

Green Lake Work Wraps Up

Neighbors living near Green Lake have endured several months of street realignments, curbing improvements, repaving and lane restriping. Now, an end is finally in sight. And in another news item from SDOT, West Green Lake Way will remain shut to cars for the foreseeable future. In honor of Earth Day, we wanted to share news of a Wallingford-based startup that helps neighbors coordinate carpooling for their kid's activities. Riding on Buses with Kids

My family is a lower Wallingford family. A few weeks ago, we packed ourselves into the car to go to Green Lake Library, a favorite of ours. Driving there was awful. It was a sunny day and everyone else decided to go to Green Lake too. We saw a bicyclist who'd clearly just been hit. He was okay but shaken. We decided Green Lake probably wouldn't be a great place to go via bicycle with our kids. Driving around looking for parking…

New Metro Bus Commute, Day 1: Anecdotes and Speculation

On Monday, my wife took the “new” Metro 26 to her office in Lower Queen Anne. Prior to Metro’s March 26 reroutes and reschedules, that particular bus was usually half-full by the time it hit her stop on Thackeray Pl NE. On Monday it was standing room only, and by the time it arrived at Durn Good Grocery, the bus was completely filled and the driver had to bypass the rest of the scheduled stops in Wallingford, stranding dozens of commuters.…

I Hear the Train A-Comin’

On March 6, I attended the Seattle Sounders opening match. After a disappointing 1-0 loss, 40,000 fans poured out of CenturyLink Field and filled the streets of Pioneer Square. For 20 minutes I waited for the route 26 or 512 to take me home to east Wallingford, but neither bus appeared. Just as well. Cars were at a standstill, my bus would’ve inched along Fourth Avenue to a gridlocked Third or I-5, stuck in Seattle’s worsening traffic. So I gave up…
