More Buses, More Options, Less 26X Capacity

I hate to kick Metro while they are in what may be a transitional stage for them, but I happened to notice adverts splashed on my favorite sites with the slogan: "More buses, more options. Thanks Seattle Voters."   Something about that slogan invites derision especially since my husband has been talking about leaving earlier to catch his bus since the changes in June.  Why? I'll let another Wallingford resident Erik Blazing tell it: For several years now, my morning commute…

Deja vu – Collision at Wallingford Ave N and N 39th St

Monday Tuesday morning while driving my kids to daycare, I saw the remnants of yet another accident. Wallyhood reader Stephanie also witnessed the aftermath. She writes: I was hoping you could do a story on the accident that happened this morning (around 8am) on the corner of 39th and Wallingford.  Looked like one person was going to the hospital and another car actually ended up on the sidewalk (thankfully it didn't look like anyone was on the sidewalk at the time).  Would…

Accidents at Wallingford and N 41st Street

On Thursday April 2nd, I was driving on N 42nd Street towards Wallingford Ave N when I saw what appeared to be the aftermath of a car accident on Wallingford. There was a black SUV with some pretty bad damage to the front and a girl on the sidewalk crying with a woman. I thought it was strange because my husband had just witnessed an accident at Wallingford and N 41st in December with a car in a truck. I requested…

The Bus Driver Appreciation Day website even has some fun thank you cards you can download and sign for your driver. Here's the official word from Metro: For hours on end, bus drivers…

Proposed Permanent (?!) Fix for Metro

Every couple of years we post about proposed cuts to Metro bus service and how those cuts will impact Wallingford. The last round of proposed cuts had the ever popular Route 26 slated for shuttering, which resulted in numerous vocal transit riders (my family included) barraging beleaguered Metro staff people at their "open house" sessions at QFC. Thankfully Route 26 was saved from the chopping block. Lower Wallingford in particular breathed a huge sigh of relief. Knowing that this time of year is…

New curb bulbs/crosswalk for Wallingford Ave

Dorothy writes: Hi, I wanted to let you know about the response I received to my request (last September!!) to add crosswalks on Wallingford Avenue and 41st street, closest to Hamilton Middle School's main entrance. My son walks to school every day, straight up the hill from our home on Sunnyside, along with many other students, and they all tend to cross the street either there or on 42nd. Since they need to be in their seats and working by the…

University Bridge Closure This Weekend

Heads-up, folks: the University Bridge will be closed this weekend. Here's the scoop from The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT): The University Bridge will be closed the weekend of March 23-24 in order to make in-water repairs to be to the north fender of the bridge which was damaged in an earlier marine accident. The bridge will close at 6 a.m. on Saturday morning, March 23.  It will remain closed until 10 p.m. Saturday evening.  At that point, the bridge will reopen until…
