Wallingford Tully’s to close on Sunday

The Seattle Times reports that Tully's Coffee has filed for bankruptcy protection and plans to close 9 company-run stores this Sunday, including the Wallingford location (2100 N. 45th St.). CEO Scott Pearson told the Times, “We’re at a point where we need to position Tully’s for the future." “We need to be able to keep this company operating, and this is the best option for us.” Thanks to Paul who sent us the tip, adding, "Sucks, because the 45th/Meridian location was a very…

There’s a cat stuck near the top of this tree

Update, 10/10 at 8:32pm: More good news! "Muffy" the cat has been reunited with her family. Here's what Jenny told us: Wow...life is funny sometimes...I had 10 posters I was going to post in the neighborhood. When I was posting, and only on my second one, I freakishly ran into the owners! No Woodlawn Santa this year

Sharon Ehrig, also known as Wallingford's Woodlawn Santa, phoned to let us know she won't be able to don the red suit and wave from her porch during this year's holiday season: "Because of my husband's needs this year and our health, I'm not doing Santa, much to my dismay," she told me. "I'll decorate the porch a little bit, but I'll definitely be downsizing this year, which is really a blow for me." In years past (16, to be exact!) Sharon…

He said he was most impressed so far with the level of engagement parents have their schools in Seattle, and that he hadn’t been seeing that in California. The main Q&A line from parents was that many upcoming siblings of students at JSIS…

Waiting to Exhale

We bumped in Josh Nagato, the new store manager at Puffin Glass (321 NE 45th St) the other day. At first, it looked like the shop was closing its doors, since all the merchandise was gone from the shelves and display cases, but it sounds like they're just remodeling. We asked Josh to give us the inside dope:  The remodel is underway and we plan on re-opening by the end of next week. We are revamping the store to make a more pleasant…

Wallyhood Interviews Jose Banda, Part 1

Seattle Schools superintendent Jose Banda kindly agreed to answer questions from our corporate world headquarters here at Wallyhood, Inc. [Ed. note: we are not actually "inc"'ed, but appreciate the literary flourish.]  Better still, the answers he gave were typed up for me so I didn't get a chance to mess up the transcription like I did with Dr. Enfield. Here's part 1 of the interview, covering lots of stuff but not "school reform". Let us know in the comments what you…
