More boozin’ at Bottleworks

Bottleworks (1710 N 45th St.) has updated its digs. From their blog: Today was an exciting day here at Bottleworks. After months of anticipation, the much-rumored taps are flowing. No longer are we just a beer store--now you can also drink a glass or two from our five draft selections before choosing beers to take home. And if you're craving a beer we don't have on tap, grab any bottle from one of the coolers and have it here for a…

Police Report

Disturbed not just by the reports of crime in Wallingford, but by the police department's seeming indifference to it (Car Prowl, Block Watch?), Wallyhood took it on the road yesterday and paid a visit to Capt. Mike Washburn of the Seattle Police Department North Precinct and his second-in-command, Lt. Robin Clark . As a bit of background, Seattle's North Precinct stretches from the Ship Canal to the Seattle City Limit at 145th St N and water-to-water, Ballard to Sand Point, and…

Wallingford Mayoral Candidate

A new Seattle mayoral candidate has thrown his hat into the ring (joining the likes of Dan Savage), and this one's from...Wallingford! Joe Mallahan, a T-Mobile executive, declares: I have been a part of the leadership team at T-Mobile for the past 9 years. At the time I joined the company in March 2000, we had about 500 Seattle area employees and over $1 billion in losses. By the end of 2008, we had about 4,500 Seattle area employees and over…

Plant Sale Reprieve

Over at the Wallyhood homestead, we were entertaining relatives this weekend, and didn't make it to Tilth's Edible Plant Sale. Instead, we headed up to Swanson's, known for great selection and quality, albeit commensurate prices. Six varieities of tomatoes are safely enshrouded under a cloche, trailing rosemary has replaced dead rock rose, cilantro is nestled amongst tomatoes, broccoli, carrots, lettuce and peas are planted, and there's even a sprig of cat nip for our geriatric feline. Don't have your garden settled…

End of Days

And God said unto Noah, . . . Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch. And this [is the fashion] which thou shalt make it [of]: The length of the ark [shall be] three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits. A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it…

Margarita Cupcakeville

It's always heartwarming to see Americans, so often stereotyped as self-centered and xenophobic, embrace the cherished aspects of other cultures as if they were their own. Today, for example, millions of Americans will take to the streets to show their respect for Mexican culture by celebrating the Mexican army's unlikely defeat of French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, Cinco de Mayo. While many Americans will express their multiculturalism by drinking themselves blind on Corona, Tecate and…
