Best Restaurant: Joule

Travel and Leisure Magazine has realized what we've known all along: Wallingford has some great eats. Their annual 50 Best New U.S. Restaurants list has given the nod to Wallingford's Joule: One of the city’s most disarmingly personal spots is Joule, which resembles a petite Continental café that just happens to serve both esoteric sparkling sakes and Korean kimchi. After bonding in the kitchen of Alain Ducasse in New York, Seoul-born Rachel Yang and her half-Tunisian husband Seif Chirchi moved west…

Stations of the Cross

We don't ordinarily do "Lost and Found" as posts (but encourage you to use the Forums for them). However, this one can't be passed over. Mehal wrote: I found a 6-foot crucifix on 39th and Stone.  Is there any lost-and-found in Wallingford that I should turn it in to?  If not, is there a contact in the police department I should report this to? Police department? No, no, no. Separation of church and state, after all. But, if the Bishop of…

Starbucks ouch!

On our way back from Guemes Island this weekend, the Wallyhood family primly passed Starbucks, eschewing the corporate behemoth for a "little guy" stand. We were rewarded with two cups of warmish milk tasting mildly of burnt coffee. Given our obviously self-destructive behavior, it should come as no shock that we're no fans of the Starbucks Coffee and Lifestyle MegaCorp. That said, we're also no fans of empty storefronts, so it was unfortunate to hear that the Starbucks at the corner…
