Remodel and Restore Workshop and Home Tour

Pam August 7, 2019 Comments are off

If you are considering a home remodel or restoration project, you don’t want to miss Historic Wallingford’s Remodel and Restore Workshop and Home Tour, Saturday, September 21 (10:00 – 3:15 pm) at the Good Shepherd Center.

Wallingford, like many Seattle neighborhoods has many restored and updated homes and period buildings. But for many homeowners, the thought of remodeling, restoring or updating a home, whether a Do-it-Yourself or with architects and contractors can be intimidating.

“How do I start?” , “What permits are needed?”, “What can I do myself and what should I leave to experts?”, “How do I …

Tuesday: Seattle Night Out

Jordan August 5, 2019 5 Comments

Tomorrow (Tuesday, Aug 6th) is the night (many of) you have been waiting for all year: Seattle Night Out. Starting around 5 pm, your neighbors will be blocking off the streets from traffic, setting up card tables for food, maybe even running a line out for a PA system.

Casseroles, salads (lettuce and fruit-focused), pizzas (meat and vegetarian and perhaps even gluten-free), desserts (brownies and home-baked cookies, I hope) will begin to appear, along with sodas (diet and regular), two buck chuck (red and white) and whiskey (hip flasks shared surreptitiously).

More importantly, your neighbors will be there, out on …

District 4 Candidates, Take 2

Jordan July 30, 2019 Comments are off

Last week, I invited the District 4 (that’s us, Wallingford!) Seattle City Council candidates to share their positions on two topics that have been impacting our community: homelessness and crime. On Sunday I tried to run the answers I received on one of the topics, but bungled the posting terribly, posting the right answers to the wrong questions, trying to fix it but still making mistakes. Sorry about that.

In the hopes of sorting it all out, I’m going to post their answers to the both questions below. Some of this will be a repost of Sunday’s article, but half …

District 4 Candidates on Homelessness

Jordan July 28, 2019 39 Comments

(Updated: I asked the candidates several questions, and posted the answer to the wrong question for all the candidates. I have corrected it below.)

I invited all candidates running for the District 4 Seattle City Council seat to share their thoughts on the crisis around homelessness that our city is facing, and offered to reprint their answers here. I heard back from Alex Pedersen, Emily Myers and Cathy Tuttle, who’s answers I share here.

(Reminder: Ballots must be in by Tuesday, August 6th. The ballot dropboxes will close at 8 pm.)

Question: There is a growing frustration in the neighborhood …

Turtle Painting, Sunday 9am

Ben Robinson July 27, 2019 Comments are off

The turtle joined the butterfly as two of the more conspicuous examples of intersection art. There is also the recent addition of the crosswalk art work near McDonald Elementary. These are great additions to the neighborhood, but they need upkeep.

A neighbor alerted us to a great community event tomorrow at 9am to repaint the turtle:

We’re holding another party to repaint Wallingford’s Bubbles the Turtle this Sunday, July 28!  Bubbles is the street mural at N 41st St and Interlake Ave N, and it’s definitely ready for a fresh coat of paint.  Anyone is welcome to help starting around …
