Rain Rain

Jordan May 14, 2019 1 Comment

They say the growing water crisis is a problem of distribution, not supply: by 2025, an estimate 2.5 billion people will face water shortages worldwide, while other populations around the globe have oriented themselves around virtually limitless supplies of fresh water. And for some, it’s not a question of geography, but time: one day water is rushing into gutters and out to sea, and a few months later, the same areas are carefully metering their tap use.

Here in Washington, Governor Inslee has already declared a drought emergency for Okanogan, Methow and the Upper Yakima. With snowpack at 80% of …

Grab your reusable shopping bags and get prepared! The Wallingford Farmers Market returns for the season on May 15th. It happens on Wednesdays, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Meridian Park. The 2019 season starts on 5/15 and runs through late September.

This year’s list of vendors includes some repeats, like my children’s favorite, Seattle Pops. There are also some new vendors, including my favorite food truck, Fire and Scrape (mmm raclette!), and opening day should be full of in-season veggies like asparagus, salad greens, broccoli, and carrots.

Here’s …

Jordan May 10, 2019 Comments are off

The Pacific Northwest Store (4411 Wallingford Ave N) (a Wallyhood sponsor) is hosting another one of the “Second Saturday” trunk sales tomorrow, May 11th, 11 am – 3 pm:

Locally renowned muralist, Ryan “Henry” Ward, has brought his whimsical artwork to apparel and paper goods. You may recognize his work since he has painted over 200 murals on surfaces such as buildings exteriors, school interiors, garages, and even vehicles – primarily in the Ballard neighborhood. [Ed note: he also did the beautiful mural on south side of the John Stanford School building here in Wallingford.]

Marijo learned to silversmith to …

New Italian Eatery Comes to Stone Way

Aakanksha Agarwal May 8, 2019 7 Comments

A rustic Italian restaurant called Fiasco has recently opened in the neighborhood. Fiasco occupies the space that formerly housed Thackeray Café & Bar, and is owned by the same people, the guys behind Heavy restaurant group. While this street has pizza places and lots of pubs, people wanted a good Italian restaurant and Fiasco certainly delivers on that front. The restaurant has some delicious Italian-inspired food, with classic Italian dishes like spaghetti carbonara sharing menu space with PNW seafood specialties like fried calamari.

Takeout and catering is a big part of this new establishment. Some …

Lincoln High School reopening September 2019

Depiction of the new front entrance to Lincoln High School

Lincoln High School is opening in less than 125 days. Families around the neighborhood are excited about their first day of school at Lincoln High since the closure in 1981.

Principal Ruth Medsker and Vice Principal Corey Eichner have been working tirelessly to make sure the Lincoln Lynx are ready to launch from the first day, but the student body still needs your support.

The Lincoln High School PTSA will support all incoming students in academics, athletics, classrooms, and clubs. They have a goal …
