It’s here again: Giving Tuesday in Wallingford

Mike Ruby November 20, 2023 Comments are off

Giving Tuesday is an annual celebration of our non-profit service organizations and a time to encourage you to donate to support them. This year it is on November 28, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. It is said that non-profits receive 80% of their annual contributions between Thanksgiving and Christmas, so now is the time when they desperately need you to join in and get them set up for another year of service. Giving Tuesday is a great day to spend a few minutes getting your annual giving done.

Eight organizations active in Wallingford are participating in Giving Tuesday. If you would …

[Editors note: Vicky Greenbaum is Director of Orchestras at Lincoln High School]

LHS Arts thrives in the Arts wing of the high school and its beautifully remodeled theater. The school itself is a centerpiece of the neighborhood, with its classic remodel and its vibrant arts, sports and academic offerings. We love to have our community support LHS arts in its own backyard!

Our Performing Arts are essential in supporting and encouraging the creativity of the teens in our community. Among our many events this year, two that were featured here on Wallyhood were Spooky Jams and a presentation of the …

Small Business Highlight: JAS Corner Store

Susanna November 15, 2023 Comments are off

There’s a house on lower Wallingford Avenue that I’ve often admired. It was beautifully restored by JAS Design Build, whose office is across the street. JAS does excellent work restoring and rethinking old houses and I think we are fortunate to have them in the neighborhood.

I just found out that last December JAS quietly opened an adjacent corner store which is a charming extension of their impeccable aesthetic. It’s a little off the beaten path, about one block south of Union Saloon and across the street. I didn’t even realize it was there, and I’m guessing I’m not the …

Clue: High School Edition

This November, Theatre Arts at Lincoln High School will be presenting Clue: High School Edition, written by Sandy Rustin and based on the screenplay by Jonathan Lynn. Broadwaylicensing.com describes it this way:

Based on the iconic 1985 Paramount movie which was inspired by the classic Hasbro board game, Clue is a hilarious farce-meets-murder mystery. The tale begins at a remote mansion, where six mysterious guests assemble for an unusual dinner party where murder and blackmail are on the menu. When their host turns up dead, they all become suspects. Led by Wadsworth – the butler, Miss …

Stone Way Needs to Be Safe to Cross – Join a Community Cross-Walkathon Protest

Julie Martin November 6, 2023 1 Comment

This post comes to us from neighbor Tracy Timmons-Gray.

About thirty minutes after my 67- year old mother left my apartment after we had dinner together on the evening of Friday, October 20, she called me, crying.

I asked her what was wrong, and she told me about how she was almost hit by two cars while walking the cross-walk at 40th and Stone Way to get to the bus stop in front of Emerald City Athletics.

As she crossed the street when the walk light was on, she faced a line of cars on 40th that were …
