Retiring in Wallingford: Navigating Volunteer Opportunities

JustPatti March 23, 2025 1 Comment

Navigating all the volunteer opportunities available, not just for seniors!

When I made the decision to retire after being part of my community as a small business owner for almost 20 years, I will be honest: it was not easy. I think the 2020 national shutdown and the Covid pandemic pushed my decision and direction. I had not planned to move across the country, give up everything, and start over again at 66 years old. What those couple of years living in Upstate New York showed me was, at the end of the day, my wants and needs had changed. …

WUMC to Host Holocaust Theatre Performance Sunday, March 23rd

Elizabeth Connolly March 21, 2025 Leave a Comment

This Sunday, Wallingford United Methodist Church (WUMC) will sponsor a staged reading of Holocaust stories, entitled Surviving Survival. All are welcome to attend.

Two short stories by Polish-Canadian Yiddish writer Chava Rosenfarb will be performed by Tales of the Alchemysts Theatre, weaving together music, song, and dance. Chava Rosenfarb was a survivor of the Lodz ghetto, as well as Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen concentration camps. Her stories have been translated into English by her daughter, Goldie Morgentaler.…

Happy birthday, Grace!

Geoff Berg March 18, 2025 1 Comment

On Saturday, March 1st, friends and neighbors of a giant redwood tree (Sequoiadendron giganteum) in the 5800 block of Woodlawn Avenue N gathered to save it from being cut down to make way for the construction of a very large single-family home on the lot. Yes, this is a little outside the boundaries of Wallingford as laid down by our assignment editors, but it is within easy walking distance of North Wallingford, and this tree is impressive!

Over 95 people showed up to show their support for Grace, the new name given to the Redwood based on the …

The following story was submitted by Mary Schilder, Director of Marketing Communications for Neighborcare Health.

Neighborcare Health is expanding dental care at 45th Street Clinic

To address this need, Neighborcare Health is adding two more dental chairs at its historic 45th Street clinic …
