Hope everyone in Wallingford is enjoying the beautiful winter weather, during my walks around the neighborhood, I recently saw my first flock of robins which got me looking forward to spring and summer!

Of course, with summer comes the annual Seafair event- the Wallingford Parade.  The parade organizers have already been hard at work organizing the details.  This year the theme is: “Wild in Wallingford” with the parade date set for Saturday July 12th and we will be celebrating 40 years of Ron Petty’s best loved sculpture: Animal Storm.

Let’s make it the wildest parade ever!

Quick reminder for our readers – this is a new series featuring the charming canines that saunter down our streets. This entry features not one but two little studs who, although small of stature, had supersized style.  Looking forward to seeing them cruise through the neighborhood again.

What makes them fabulous: Usually aloof, they were feeling frisky today

Today’s Adventure: A visit to Wallypets to stock up on treats…

How to age in place in Seattle on a small retirement income

My daughter has been after me to write how I survive living in Seattle on my retirement income. I have been here 2 years now, having moved here February 1st 2023, from Glens Falls, NY, to live near my daughter. She came here to attend graduate school in 2001, and never came home again except for a visit—and even that stopped after a few years once we decided we would visit at our timeshare on the beach, and I would come to visit her since she had …

tl;dr…A Cautionary Tale of Life in the Age of Online Retail and Delivery

Gary Shigenaka February 13, 2025 2 Comments

This is a tale of the pitfalls of our delivered-to-your-door economy (Wallingford edition). I know there are many such weak points in our voracious retail fulfillment cycle. One only has to scan the likes of local Facebook groups, your connected doorbell app, or that always reliable purveyor of bad news and paranoia, NextDoor, to see multiple accounts of packages disappearing from the porch or the mailroom. My story is not quite so criminal or insidious. I don’t think there were any overt evil-doers involved in this episode. But I am still missing an item that should have been delivered to…

Does your local store donate to Democrats or Republicans?

Susanna February 11, 2025 16 Comments

The recent inauguration may have some of us feeling helpless. One thing we can do to reclaim our power is to make conscious decisions on where we spend our money according to that company’s values. I have definitely found myself thinking “I will never give my money to that (GOP-aligned) company again!” I’m guessing many of you have had the same thought.

But did you know that companies that are right here in Wallingford make political donations? Using an app called Goods Unite Us (which I highly recommend), I’ve done a search of some of the larger chain stores we …
