Recess Monkeys: Unplugged

  • Post author:

recessToddler heart throbs the Recess Monkeys are paying a visit to Wallingford this Saturday, August 1 at 11 am at Alphabet Soup Children’s Books (1406 45th St). If you haven’t heard of the Recess Monkeys, you’re either childless or have grown children that are listening to the Black-Eyes Peas at best or Miley Cyrus at worst.

Despite the fact that our child is only eight and a half months old and expresses his musical taste by passing his hands by each other in a sort of near-miss soundless clap and shaking his head like a seizure victim, even we have heard of the Recess Monkeys. True, we haven’t actually heard them, but we have heard of them, referred to by parents of toddlers with the the sort of awe previously reserved for The Beatles, U2 and Menudo.

If you want to get a taste, check out the tunes like “Haven’t Got a Pet Yet”, “Knocktopus” and “Humuhumunukunukapa’a” on their web site. To check them out live, visit Alphabet Soup this weekend:

Recess Monkey will be performing songs from their new release “Field Trip” (on sale now!) and other old favorites. Tee shirts and DVDs will also be available.

It’ll be a pared-down set appropriate to our space — Recess Monkey Unplugged.

As if that weren’t enough of a treat, we’ll have cupcakes provided by Trophy Cupcakes.

Chill out! We now have air conditioning.

I started Wallyhood back in 2008, right when my son was born, because I realized I had lived in the neighborhood since 1993 and didn't really know my neighbors. I figured writing a blog about what was going on around me would be a good way to meet people and help other people do the same. As the years progressed, those neighbors have picked up the torch and it is now a group effort, which I adore. I moved out of Wallingford for a few years (2020 - 2025), but I'm back, now living with my wife, son and dog (Dillinger) up in Tangletown.
