Cook Local Contest

PGFAre you a locavore?  A fan of Seattle’s neighborhood farmers markets?  Does the word “Bam!” mean anything to you? Or maybe you love watching Top Chef (go Jennifer!) & fantasize about competing one day.  Now you can – and from your own kitchen, too!

The Neighborhood Farmers Market Alliance is sponsoring the “Thank-Your-Farmers Harvest Feast” Contest for the best and most direct-from-the-farmers-market Thanksgiving Dinner of 2009.  You can win a home-cooked meal for six from Brasa Restaurant’s executive chef, Tamara Murphy. Or some pretty nifty farmers market shopping sprees.

Here’s the deal:

Make the most farmers-market-sourced, delicious, unique, beautiful Thanksgiving dinner you can. As much as possible, everything from the wine to the centerpiece should be sourced directly from local farms at the Broadway, U-District or West Seattle Farmers Markets. The ingredients that you cannot purchase at the farmers markets should also be locally sourced as much as possible.

Just host your Thanksgiving dinner, take photos, and send ‘em in.  Easy!  There are some extensive instructions, though, so be sure to read the Puget Sound Fresh announcement here.

Seattle’s farmers markets support over 100 family farms, and are an essential component in the sustainability of our local agriculture.  To donate to the non-profit Neighborhood Farmers Market Alliance, or for more information about the markets, visit www.seattlefarmersmarkets.org

Happy shopping, happy cooking, happy eating, happy contesting!
