Field Recording Workshop for Youth 8-13

Wallingford’s Hollow Earth Radio and The Fremont Abbey Arts Center are teaming up to present a free field recording workshop for kids Saturday, January 23rd from 11am – 4pm. Youth, ages 8-13, will spend the day learning how to capture the sounds that are all around us.  They’ll be able to try different microphones and recording devices, and explore the sounds of Fremont.

Location: The Fremont Abbey, 4272 Fremont Ave N (see map here).

It’s free, but space is limited, so register your budding artist asap via email:  [email protected]

About the Fremont Abbey Arts Center: Built in 1914, the Fremont Abbey Arts Center was once the home of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.  The building is now curated by The Fremont Abbey Arts Center where the community-driven, volunteer-powered center offers educational arts experiences such as classes, workshops, music lessons, concerts, theatre, dance, and more. The Abbey fulfills the Fremont Neighborhood Plan’s directive for an Arts Center and pulls in people from nearby neighborhoods like Wallingford, which doesn’t have its own dedicated art center.  In carrying out their mission, the Abbey works hard to set a good example for sustainability by using natural homemade cleaning supplies, efficient heating, insulation, composting, recycling, etc.  Read about their stunning array of community arts events at http://www.fremontabbey.org

About Hollow Earth Radio: HER is the Pacific Northwest’s freeform online do-it-yourself radio station operating out of a local attic.  Hollow Earth features found sound, field recordings, story-telling, dream-collecting, radio plays, live house shows and local living room performances.  They expose works that haven’t yet been unearthed, or that have long remained dormant. Perhaps best of all, they celebrate raw talent and encourage bands who’ve never heard their own music broadcast before.  Learn more about Hollow Earth Radio http://hollowearthradio.org
