We just spoke with Tony, the owner of the Luau, and confirmed what tipsters like Maya have been telling us: tomorrow night, Tuesday, is the end of an era for the Luau Polynesian Lounge in Tangletown.
“It was just time,” Tony told us. “I’m 35, my wife’s 36, we’ve been at this for eleven years now, we’re starting to think about having kids, and it’s just time. You know, when you start to think about all the things you could do with the place, but you just don’t have it in you to do it all, you know the spark’s gone and it’s time to move on.”
And so move on they will. They found a good buyer (a rarity in These Tough Economic Times™) and now they’re going out in style. Stop by Tuesday night, they’ll be draining the kegs and singing the Hawaiian version of Auld Lang Syne, if there is one.
The new owner is not expected to continue the Polynesian theme, but no word yet on what’s planned.
