Wallingford has had an uneasy relationship with the motels along Aurora (see Motel Crackdown, More Trouble at the Italia Motel, Wallingford Inn Madness, Wrong Police Raid, for example). Rachelle and her crew have decided enough is enough. However, rather than flipping them the bird, they’re going to flip them a burger. She writes:
I am part of a community outreach group at a church off of 50th and Dayton (not quite Wallingford – but close!) and we are organizing a neighborhood BBQ for Sunday March 28th off of Aurora and 42nd next to the Marco Polo motel. Our hope is to offer free food (burgers and hot-dogs) to anyone/everyone in the neighborhood – to get to know the people in our area including some of our community’s motels.
We have been building some relationships with several motel residents and have begun to realize that many of them are discouraged (especially during these grey winter months) and often feel alone and isolated – but we also realize that this feeling is not isolated to these individuals… so why not celebrate community and eat together? We really just want to have a fun time mingling with residents from all walks of life that live in our neighborhood and so we are trying to get the word out!
There are no strings attached, we’re not doing this to ‘evangelize’ anyone, we’re just trying to get to know our neighborhood and want as many people to know about it as possible. ;o)
We will be serving food from 2pm until its all been served (rain or shine). We will be set-up just south of the Marco Polo parking lot directly off of 99.
Sounds wonderful weather. May the sun shine on your grill.
