Attempted Arson on Saturday

  • Post author:

Did you hear all those sirens in the morning yesterday?  We did, but it sounded like the ambulance and fire trucks were headed on to Aurora.  Turns out, they were responding to an incident on Whitman at 41st.  Wallyreader Yolanda shared this with us:

There was an arson attempt of our condo building located at 4111 Whitman Ave N at approximately 11 am Saturday 9/4/10. They used a lighter and kept it lit and propped it up so it burned in our stairwell catching the stairs on fire. Thankfully the fire was caught quickly by a neighbor and dowsed. No suspects or description known at this time. (Stairwell faces alley and our parking lot, stairway is used very frequently and fire location was in a very conspicuous location, the arsonist(s) was not trying to hide his/her/their activities).

Thanks for letting us know, Yolanda.  We’re really glad to hear that everyone is o.k.

Propping lighters open is also done by Dopers. Is it possible it was a careless Doper, and not an intentional arsonist?

How extraordinary that this event ended without harm.
