Meridian Market items for auction

  • Post author:

Earlier last month we were saddened to say goodbye to Meridian Market–a neighborhood staple for many.  What’s sadder still is walking past the store’s remains–a shadow of its former self, with empty shelves and stacks of newspapers accumulating by the front entrance.  We wrote in August that we hoped a buyer could come in to save the market, but nothing materialized.

A public auction of the store’s fixtures and equipment will be held at the space (2201 N 56th St.) tomorrow morning, at 10:00 a.m.  The space will be open from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. for the public to preview the items before the auction begins.  If you’re in the market for purchasing store equipment–anything from deli cases to microwave ovens, tables and chairs visit the auctioneer’s website to download a brochure of the items available.

For the rest of us, here’s a beautiful slide show created by Matt Mason in honor of Meridian Market.

I’m really sorry to see this great neighborhood treasure go belly up when that stupid 50th Street Market is still going strong. I guess the street drunks provide more steady income. What a shame…
