New Puddle Announced

In Monday’s Seattle PI, Scott Gutierrez wrote about a new puddling situation along the Burke-Gilman Trail at Meridian Avenue North, near Gasworks Park.  The puddle is the result of recent construction along the trail.  The City is aware and will resolve the problem by the end of the year.  Til then, keep your feet dry!

Mr. Gutierrez’s story got some of the WallyWriters to thinking last night.  One of us asked, “When you see a big puddle, are you tempted to run out and get really small objects, like model boats and clay tentacles, and pretend like you’re actually photographing the high seas from a birds-eye view? Or is that just me?”

Just you.

I, on the other hand, once fantasized about sailing tiny little boats in the 3 shallow, square fountains behind the LBJ School of Public Affairs in Austin.  I could not help it.  For two years in the late nineties, I had an office that overlooked the fountains and they just invited tiny boat sailing.  Columbus Day almost did me in.

While Wallyhood cannot endorse dropping man-made objects in puddles and leaving them there, I do believe we could get behind “puddle art” that is eco-friendly and won’t clog our drains or damage our waters.  Temporary green graffiti — a diversion that could solve our neighborhood graffiti problem.  Just imagine leaf boats instead of spray painted walls!  I’m behind it!

I think I need to watch some Andy Goldsworthy DVDs to feed my newest fantasy.

That puddle is not new, it’s been there for at least 6 months.

You lived in Austin? We moved here from Austin a year and a half ago. How long were you there?

  6. Chris W.

Amy, I was in Austin from 1991 til early 2003. After a two year stint in South Carolina, we landed here in ’05. And happily! I do miss the music scene & the breakfast tacos, tho! Hook ’em!

Hey! I’m down for puddle boats!

We can have puddle boat races when Greenlake has milk carton races!
