40 Reasons Mr. Wallyhood Rocks

On this, the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Mr. Wallyhood’s birth, we present 40 Reasons Mr. Wallyhood Rocks.

1.     He’s a Wallingford do-gooder.

2.     He founded the coolest hyperlocal blog in Seattle.

3.     Wallyhood is a hobby, not a money-making enterprise.

4.     Less bullshit, more realism.

5.     He filled the Stone Way pit with colorful balls.

6.     He decorates the Wallyhood banner for holidays.

7.     He cares how we look.

8.     He used to have blue hair.

9.     He always picks up the tab when the Wallywriters go out drinking.

10.  He knows how to make the most out of a Dick’s vanilla milkshake.

11.  He mixes a mean Dick’s shake & Contreau.

12.  He coined the term “Wallingfordistan.”

13.  Some of us never thought about art and graffiti so much before.

14.  Now Chris W. can get a good night’s sleep.

15.  There’s a sushi roll named after his blog.

16.  He sticks up for people.

17.  He settled the score on boundary questions once and for all.

18.  He doesn’t shy away from controversy.

19.  Now we all know how to spell apiary.

20.  Plus he’s got mad apiary skills.

21.  He gently heats his honey to a perfect 103 degrees… in his hot tub.

22.  He shares his honey and delivers it by bike.  Carbon footprint-free local honey.  Nothing sweeter.

23.  He throws a wicked Halloween party.

24.  42

25.  He teaches us stuff.

26.  He’s a white Jewish guy, named in honor of MLK.

27.  His kid is called “Baby Z.”  How friggin’ sick is that?

28.  Baby Z’s full name name honors (Nelson) Rolihlahla Mandela.

29.  He lets Baby Z sled in the street.

30.  He inspires us to actually talk to our neighbors.  Sometimes we even exchange phone numbers.

31.  Sometimes he says really funny stuff.  Really funny.

32.  He was the first to break the news of Wallingford’s secession.

33.  And the first to break the story when Walmart made their landmark announcement.

34.  He goes under the alias of the Hoodito Bandito.

35.  He gets the conversation started.

36.  He cares about the “little guy.”

37.  He scares off bad guys.

38.  He’s got a nice mug.

39.  And he’s not a bad writer; in fact, better than most.  See here, here, here, here… well, evidence is all over Wallyhood.  We know where he gets it, too.

40.  Because he’s created a hyper-empire and harnessed the best and the brightest writers in Wallingford…  click here, scroll to the bottom.

Happy Birthday, Jordan!  And thank you.

Chris S. Witwer likes to call herself Wallyhood’s “Lower Wallingford Correspondent.” Chris is a former Texan (is there any such thing?) who came to Seattle in 2005 for three reasons: weather, scenery, and coffee culture. It has taken her four years to begin to understand Seattle humor, but she’s getting there. Chris is a bureaucrat by day, and caffeine-fueled blogger when she’s not reading novels or pretending to write one. She lives with her partner, Laura, and two cats — Dolce and Molly, and uses the internet to make fun of stuff on her personal blog, http://felsputzer.wordpress.com.

Happy Birthday, Jordan! Thanks for being such a great neighbor to JSIS. My son said his 3rd grade class visit to your backyard bees was his favorite field trip this year. And thanks also for the donation of honey to the International Schools Arts Auction. And – for Wallingford – for providing a great way for the neighborhood to stay in touch.
