Changes Turns 22

Wallingford’s only gay bar, Changes, is celebrating 22 years in Wallingford Friday. And Saturday.  And Sunday.  And MONDAY too!

And we’re all invited!

Changes is one of the longest running gay bars in all of Seattle.  The bar opened in 1989, under the name The Rat Hole.  Since then,  Changes has outlasted many competitors.  And, true to type (gay bar type, that is) Changes is always committed to sponsoring local gay sports programs.

This weekend’s anniversary celebration is a big “thank you” to the bar’s numerous patrons over the years.  Drop in and wish ’em a happy anniversary.

Here’s an overview:

  • Friday is the owner Floyd’s birthday.  Changes will feature drink specials, games, a drag number, and giveaways.  Aunt Flo will be there!
  • Saturday & Sunday.  More drinks, more fun, more dancing.
  • Monday the 31st you can help the Changes Volleyball team raise money by ordering up a 3 course spaghetti dinner — for just $10.  Salad, spaghetti with Seth’s special sauce, garlic bread, & a dessert.  Money raised will go toward volleyball player’s dues and practice space.  Food starts around 7pm.

How straight friendly is it? I have always been tempted to go in for karaoke and cocktails, but I am intimidated by it’s gay-divey-ness. It’s like a gay version of the Grizzled Wizard.

It’s very gay boy really. But they have been very nice when we’ve been in there and if there is anything weirder in a really gay boy bar than straight people – it’s lesbians! 🙂

Thanks FreGirl. I might try it out.

@Frankie. They’re very friendly! Just walk in, say happy anniversary, and the rest will take care of itself!

@Frankie, the bar is very straight friendly. On some karaoke nights there are more straight girls and guys than gays. The drink are very affordable and the service is always freindly.

Thanks again Wallyhood blog for featuring our event!

I remember going in long ago.. feeling awkward as I was by myself. I had friendly conversation etc. I was made welcome.. me, a single middle aged woman alone.

I am coming to celebrate.. much thanks to inclusive friendly lives.

We went last night. It was awkward for a sec, til we got a seat at the bar. Then we were joined by the friendliest travel industry employee there ever was. What an enjoyable conversation we had! And the drinks were pretty excellent too!

A very wonderful place for both gays and straights. This is the epitome of a neighborhood bar. I am straight, have gone there for several years and have always been treated extremely well. Great drinks, great service, great food, and great people there.
