Wallingford Weekend

As I begin to write this post on Tuesday night, it is snowing.  Now, do I risk my credibility by assuming it’ll melt with the predicted rain & 47 degree temps on Wednesday, or do I cover my ass and mention a lot of indoor activities just in case?  Hmmm.

Friday

  • 5:30 – 9pm.  Wallingford Community Kitchen is cooking up some Southern delectables at the Wallingford Community Senior Center, 4649 Sunnyside Ave N, Room 140 Seattle, WA.  $9.99 pre-registration fee, $15 at the door.  Learn more here.
  • 6:30 – 9:30pm.  “Fixing the Future” is showing at Friday Night at the Meaningful Movies.  The film discusses our economy, and some positive local-level solutions.   Followed by a facilitated discussion with Christina Hanna from Seattle Good Business Network; Colleen Kurke with the Wallingford Chamber of Commerce; Leo Brodie from Transition Seattle; and Sustainable Wallingford’s Cathy Tuttle.  Free.

Saturday

  • 9am. MLK Weekend at the Burke Gilman Trail.  It’s a work party!  At 4355 NE 55th at Sand Point.  Contact Jim Corson (jim.corson at comcast.net) for more info, or read more here.  Bring dependable, weather-appropriate work clothes, a water bottle, and a coffee cup.  The Friends of the Burke Gilman Trail at Sandpoint will take care of the rest.

Sunday

  • Noon – 1:30.  Gracefeast at Gift of Grace Church, 2102 N. 40th.  Read all about it here.
  • Noon.  Penny Harvest for Haiti + Juggling event @ Izilla Toys in Wallingford Center.   Izilla Toys is participating in the One Hundred for Haiti fundraising effort. Kids are encouraged to harvest as many pennies and loose change as they can find.  As a special thanks, kiddos will receive a small juggling-themed prize for their pennies harvest.   Anyone interested in donating may also do so.  Izilla says, “Come join us for a day of learning and fun about compassion and caring for others.” And the best part?   There will be professional juggling by Greg Bennick!  Yeah, you read that right.  Juggling!

Monday, MLK Holiday

  • Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Celebration (all day), Rally (11am), and March (noon).  The march starts at Garfield High and ends at the Federal Building downtown.  Details here.

It has taken her four years to begin to understand Seattle humor, but she’s getting there. Chris is a bureaucrat by day, and caffeine-fueled blogger when she’s not reading novels or pretending to write one. She lives with her partner, Laura, and two cats — Dolce and Molly, and uses the internet to make fun of stuff on her personal blog, http://felsputzer.wordpress.com.
