Wallybits: Crime Edition

Margaret Margaret June 30, 2011 2 Comments

A couple of crimes occurred this week involving car break-ins, shoplifters, and items stolen from the Good Shepherd Center.

A reader tells us that her family’s car was broken into during the middle of the day on Tuesday:

My son attends Wallingford Child Care Center (42nd & Bagley).  On 6/28, at approximately 4pm, our car (while parked directly in front of the child care entrance on 42nd) was broken into. The window was smashed and two diaper bags were stolen.  Around the corner (on Bagley) but also in front of the church, a second car was also broken into.  The police were notified.  My husband was inside picking up our son. He was inside for no more than 5-10 minutes.

Sock Monster employee Kelly tells us about some stolen items from the store:

Hello Kitty Leg Warmers

The Sock Monster had a shoplifting theft last week on Wednesday June 22nd. It included a set of Day of the week Hello Kitty leg/arm warmers cost of $60, a pair of Sock it to Me Socks, and a pair of slippers. Total cost of $76, Ouch! Today Wednesday June 29th we had a shoplifting theft in progress, I caught them, it was 3 girls about 12-14 in age, and Sock Monster owner, Holly, also said that the previous theft on June 22nd involved three girls with the same description. Not A Number was hit too, and thinks they might recognized them.

Steve, who runs the Wayward Music Series over at the Chapel Performance Space at the Good Shepherd Center (4649 Sunnyside Avenue N.) shares this information:

There have been a rash of break-ins at the Good Shepherd Center recently. Artists performing here are urged to make sure that everything is put away, lock all doors that should be locked, and be aware of people coming in late at night while you are loading out after shows. And as usual, don’t leave valuables in your car.

Also, a reminder to watch out for anyone going door to door claiming to be raising money for charities, as they are back at it. Real friendly, but still a scam.

A few weeks ago, a friend had the catalytic converter cut off from under her Toyota Tundra truck, damaging the exhaust system in the process. It was parked out in front of a house. Now it’s in a locked garage. This is the third incident in the Wallingford area that I’ve heard about.
