Wallingford Ave blocked from 40th down to 37th

Update: there was a kitchen fire at 3907 Wallingford Avenue. No injuries reported. Traffic is now back to normal.

Wallingford Avenue is closed by the Seattle Fire Dept from 40th down to about 37th due to some sort of incident — as best I could tell from the cab I was just in, a car accident.

Northbound Metro buses are sitting at Wallingford & 37th, unable to go north or reroute through the small streets nearby.

We’ll keep you posted if/as we learn more.  Probably best to take Stone Way north & south for the time being.

It was a grease fire in a house on the west side of the street, about half way between 39th and 40th. The fireman said it wasn’t really bad, but if it was your kitchen, you wouldn’t be happy.

    Thanks SJM!

fire is never good and I am very sorry for the homeowner,

However….I am just amazed at the amount of firemen that were on hand for this small fire.. Seven fire trucks, five support vehicles, three ambulances….. it just seems like a bit over the top response for a simple grease fire.

I do agree, Eric… but can’t really blame them after the loss of life in an apartment complex in Fremont last year.
