Cedar Grove Composting Leaves Wallingford

A Wallyhood reader (thank you!) wrote this week to tell us that Cedar Grove Composting is leaving their current location in Lower Wallingford.  Saturday will be their last day as our neighbors.  Cedar Grove Composting currently sells their products from the back of the lot at 3400 Stone Way North – on the same lot that will be developed into a 5 story living building by Skanska USA.

Wallingford neighbor “Tom M” posted a link to a mock-up he made of the proposed building, which you can view here.

CJ Castillo, the Facility Manager at the “Fremont” facility, confirmed the tip.  Yes, Saturday will be Cedar Grove’s last day at their current location.  He says, “I’m bummed because I enjoyed it here and I know people loved coming down.”  He thinks a “new building for retail space is going to be built on the lot.”  CJ doesn’t know if there are future plans to relocate the facility elsewhere.

Which reminds me of something Izilla Toys said earlier this week:

“If you want interesting and unique local shops to survive and eventually thrive you must do your shopping there.  Go to your local shops BEFORE you go online. Go to them with the understanding that you may not get the same diversity of selection, but what you DO get is so much more important. You get expertise, passion and equity in the growth of your community.  Locally owned business are the first to donate to your schools. Locally owned business are the first to reinvest in your neighborhoods.  Locally owned businesses believed in your unique tastes and values enough to risk it all.  They invested both in their own dreams and in the belief that you value your community’s uniqueness.  Please shop local.  It’s really, really important.”

I’m not suggesting the two are related, but I do know this:  Cedar Grove Composting is still available in Wallingford, even if they’re not located here.  Cedar Grove is a green, local business.  Just sayin’.

  1. Cedar Grove Composting

Indeed, we are sad to be leaving our Fremont location but we are very happy to have two great local partners in Dunn Lumber and The Dirt Exchange. Dunn Lumber on Latona carries bagged Cedar Grove compost and soil. You can also order Cedar Grove bulk soils for delivery or purchase kitchen compost kits from Dunn. If you would like to pick up bulk compost or soil, The Dirt Exchange is in Ballard at 1515 NW Leary and has all of our Cedar Grove soils for sale. Please support both of these local businesses if you are need of compost or topsoil. Thanks for being great neighbors and keep your eyes open, you never know where else we might pop up!
