Explosion Sound 12/5

This morning Wallyhood received a reader tip from a tipster who said she heard something that sounded like an explosion last night near 54th & 1st Ave.   Not sure what time.

We haven’t seen anything on the news/police/fire wires yet.  Did anyone else hear it, and does anybody know what happened?

Gas explosion? Car accident? Fire? Transformer?

Let us know in the Comments section!

H/T to Tina.  Thanks for the inquiry!

It was at 12:45 am and was really loud. It might have just been thunder. But it sounded like a gunshot or explosion to me.

  2. gina

Yes myself and dog heard it by Tangletown. It sounded like a trash can got dropped. No echo or anything just loud. Thought it was construction by house.

  3. Horseknuckle

I heard it, too. Very loud. I thought it sounded like a gunshot from a very large-caliber gun. The dogs FREAKED out, while I said, “City living.” I did not, thereafter, hear any sirens.

  4. Marcel

It couldn’t have been a gunshot, because I heard it all the way in lower Wallingford, near 36th and Stone.

  5. Paul Offit

It was my exploding theory that vaccines are safe and shouldn’t be questioned.

Dr. Offit, seriously? I thought you were in Philly. If you’re in Wallingford now, let us know!

Just came back from a conference where Seth Mnookin was seriously heckled…

w… but that garlic was grown here in Wallingford I bet. 😉

    So… anti-vaccine trolling/comment spam is ok?

  10. Gina

Hmm. Comments like this give this post and blog less value. If anyone has an idea of what it was that would be more helpful.

i heard it, and i’m also in tangletown. it was loud enough that i was alarmed, but not hearing any follow up sounds i actually forgot about it until this afternoon when i saw this post.

I heard it and I’m near 40th and Stone. Thought it was the neighbor’s door slamming extra loud or a dumpster dropped from a truck. Cat raised her head briefly and went right back to sleep.

So… I’d like to ask again: trolling and/or comment spam is tolerated on Wallyhood as long as it’s anti-vaccine? Are there any other topics that are approved of for trolling? Or do we just make allowances for anti-science crackpots?

Here’s the thing, protected static. As author of this post, I am the only one who gets copies via email of each comment. Generally, I prefer to only delete comments that are rude or attacks against a specific person. WordPress already catches most automated spam. If you wish, I’ll ask Jordan for a formal policy on trolling, but if you delete Comments like those above, you usually end up in a flame war that can shut down the server & the site to everyone who reads Wallyhood. Which defeats the purpose of posting articles each day.

I’m with ps. I think it’s perfectly reasonable to delete an off-topic sock puppet who’s here solely to stir reaction.

    Me too.
