B.F. Day earns top award for Special Ed

Many thanks to Toby Jarman who provided us with this story!

Congratulations to B.F. Day Elementary School for receiving the Outstanding School Award from the Seattle Special Education PTSA! The award was presented at the Seattle Special Education PTSA’s general meeting on Tuesday, May 15, along with awards for Outstanding Volunteer and Outstanding Teacher.

I was very proud to nominate B.F Day for this award. At a time when autism is on the rise and public schools everywhere are struggling to understand and serve these students, I feel incredibly fortunate that my son attends a school with such a strong program staffed with such talented individuals. I have seen him make huge strides this year thanks to the patience, skill, high expectations, and positive attitude of his teachers, IAs, and our excellent principal Susan McCloskey.

When special education students are understood and well-served, everyone in the classroom benefits. Keep up the good work, B.F. Day!

Excellent. Congrats to Wallingford’s new neighborhood school (now that JSIS’s zone no longer contains much of Wallingford). Keep up the good work!
