Shenanigans be gone – Super Nanny Casting Call

Sharon April 9, 2010 Comments are off

Calling all wild childs! The casting director for Season 6 of the ABC show SuperNanny is looking for families, and she’ll be in Washington this month. If you’re interested in learning more about the show, want to “try out” or nominate another family (wouldn’t it be strange – or feel free to insert your own adjective here – to be “nominated” for this?), contact Vanessa Ranko at VanessaRanko@ gmail.com.

And if you’re a SuperNanny newbie like me, here’s a little snippet on what they’re looking for.

ABC’s hit parenting show SUPERNANNY is looking for families! Are you fed …

The Anti-Capitalist Capitalist

Jordan April 9, 2010 Comments are off

Our own Kara Ceriello, president of the Wallingford Chamber of Commerce, got a nice write-up last week in Mother Jones, which covered the very well attended showing of Michael Moore’s “Capitalism: A Love Story”. The article included some interesting comments on the distinction between the little Chamber of Commerce that serves our ‘hood and the big old U.S. Chamber of Commerce that serves the interests of big old corporations:

You might say that the Wallingford Chamber and that other, slightly larger chamber of commerce based in Washington, DC, aren’t on the best of terms.  Last week at the Wallingford Chamber’s …

Ready for the weekend?  We sure are!  Here’s a taste of what’s happening in Wallingford and neighboring ‘hoods this weekend:

HONK! Fest West is a street fair featuring acoustic mobile street bands:  marching bands, samba lines, horn players, drum corps, and all sorts of funky noise .  HONK! Fest West kicks off with a neighborhood block party Friday, 4/9 from 6pm-10pm outside Fremont Studios, 155 N. 35th in Fremont. 5th Annual Seattle Edible Book Festival — a festival celebrating books and food and the people who love them.  The deadline for entering your own edible work of art has passed,…

Honk Fest West

Jordan April 8, 2010 Comments are off

The honking and stomping we hear wafting over from our neighbor’s house every Tuesday evening had a bit of extra oomph in its oompa this week, as the Yellow Hat Band headed into their final rehearsal before for Honk Fest West, the annual gathering of streets bands.

Twenty street bands from all over the U.S. and Canada will be converging on Seattle this weekend for a bit of merriment and mayhem, playing out all over Fremont, Georgetown, West Seattle and Central District. It kicks off Friday night at 6 pm in Fremont, check the full schedule or the Honk Fest …

People living in vehicles and Dogs on the playfield continue to be hot topics.  Check out these long, detailed posts.  Why not chip in your 2 cents? Has the neighbor’s dog run over and pooped in your yard once too often?  Or fed up with people who are too uptight about a little dog poop? …

Door-to-door magazines (again)

Jordan April 7, 2010 3 Comments

He’s back. A door-to-door magazine salesman is making the rounds of the neighborhood again. We just got these two reports in the last hour:

Just had some fellow come to my door (Latona Ave NE) trying to get me to pick a magazine subscription so he could win a trip. The operation seemed a little shady – wanted to know what I did for a living because people in the neighborhood were suppose to ‘inspire’ him.

and
