Wallybits: Neighborhood Schools Edition

Margaret December 20, 2010 10 Comments

Seattle Public Schools may be on winter break for the next two weeks, but there are some exciting pieces of news we wanted to share with you:

McDonald School selected as elementary International School: On Wednesday, December 15, Superintendent Dr. Goodloe-Johnson announced that McDonald School was selected as the new elementary International School.  Implementation is contingent on funding and would not start before September 2012.  A community meeting will be held at the Lincoln High School Library on Thursday, January 13, where Karen Kodama, manager of the International Schools Program, will give folks an in-depth presentation about what the program …

Christmas Ship Gas Works Finale

Chris Witwer December 20, 2010 Comments are off

Argosy officially opened their Christmas Ship season with a visit to Gas Works Park on Dec 1st.  Now the Christmas Ship will be back to serenade us during the Argosy Grand Finale on Thursday, December 23rd.

You’ll be able to hear the Seattle Girls’ Choir Prime Voce from the shores of Gas Works Park from 9:45pm – 10:05pm.  Or listen in from one of the Argosy boats.  Or from a kayak festooned with colorful strings of lights.   Whatever makes you happy.

Not familiar with this Seattle tradition?  No worries.  Check out previous Wallyhood posts here and here.

I hope someone …

Treetop Acupuncture

Jordan December 20, 2010 1 Comment

Usually, when we talk about “our neighbor” here on Wallyhood, it’s in a general sense: we’re all neighbors, right? Well, it’s a pleasure to welcome our newest Wallyhood sponsor, a  neighbor in the stricter geographic sense: Lesli Dalaba lives next door.

We remember some years ago, our new housemate Rob peering out the window and remarking that his acupuncture teacher was walking in next door. Sure she is, she lives there!

At the time, she was practicing at the Neighborhood Acupuncture Clinic on Capitol Hill. The property became the site of a new light rail station, and Lesli took the …

Is the ‘Festering Pit’ closer to being filled?

Margaret December 17, 2010 3 Comments

Last month, we ran a festering pit update, thanks to reader Darcey, who tipped us off to a renewed permit for the hole at 3920 Stone Way N. When we spoke to Scott Brewer, Director of Construction at Redimensions, he told us that it was simply a permit renewal, and that the property’s future was still uncertain, given the financing issues involved with it.

This morning, the Seattle Times reported that Redimensions (referring to the company as an affiliate for Prescott Homes) actually purchased the property from QFC yesterday, and in addition to the permit issued in mid-November, there was …
