Wallingford Weekend Festival

Jordan December 4, 2010 Comments are off

There may be frost on roofs, but the sun is shining bright, so there’s no reason in the world not to shrug on a warm coat and walk on up to downtown Wallingford this weekend, there’s just heaps going on.

We already told you about the artist house sales, the lighting of the Wallingford signs, Santa photos benefitting the Boys and Girls Club, and the “Shop for a Cause” fundraiser for the Wallingford Senior Center, but Kara Ceriello of the Wallingford Chamber just sent us an update with even more, including free chair massages, free hot cocoa, $1 off drinks …

Helen December 4, 2010 1 Comment

Can you believe that six Wallingford businesses won in Seattle Magazine’s Readers’ Choice Best of 2010?

Without further ado . . . here they are!:

Jen, Co-Owner, Izilla Toys What is the secret to your success? – “Trusting our instincts to buy the toys that are really truly engaging, and endeavoring to be part of our communities.” What is your favorite thing about Wallingford? – “I like that it is so walkable, so much like an urban village.  I feel like I can get almost everything I need to get done here, it’s got schools, drug stores, really a whole…

Shooting Resolved

Jordan December 3, 2010 18 Comments

So here’s the story we got from a neighbor up by Milano Pizza / Slave to the Needle about Wednesday night’s “shooting”:

Some idiot was showing off his gun in Milano Pizza, took out the clip, then pulled the trigger without realizing that there was already a bullet chambered. Oops. Gun went off, bullet went through a wall, almost hit someone in the tattoo parlor.

The idiot fled, ditched his gun Lake Union, then later turned himself in to the cops, who gave him “a stern lecture”, according to the Seattle Crime blog.

Idiot.…

New store to open at former Meridian Market site

Margaret December 2, 2010 9 Comments

Wallyhood reader David snapped this picture for us yesterday, showing the new brown paper covering the windows of the space formerly occupied by Meridian Market (2201 N 56th St).  “I’m hoping this means something new is in the works,” David wrote.

Indeed, it does!  Looks like the space will soon have a new tenant.  EveryBlock Seattle shows a new liquor license application for a grocery store, called the 56th Street Market, to sell beer and wine.

Thanks for the tip, David!…

Margaret December 2, 2010 3 Comments

There’s no rain in the forecast (yet) for this weekend and temperatures should hover around 40 degrees—-perfect weather to throw on a coat and hat, and take a stroll to the many events happening around the neighborhood.

Friday, December 3

Tonight: Wine World’s Grand Opening Party

Margaret December 2, 2010 12 Comments

Did you see the searchlights in the sky last night?  That was Wine World’s (not-so-secret) secret grand opening party.  But tonight, they’re hosting their official grand opening celebration, from 6-9 PM, and everyone’s invited.

The grand opening will provide folks with an opportunity to explore Wine World’s 23,000 square foot space, equipped with two 30 foot tasting bars and a 4,000 square foot room for special events.  Live music will be provided by local jazz ensemble Ambience, and while valet parking will be available for $8, they’ll only be able to accommodate 200 cars.  Shouldn’t be a problem for most …
