Wallingford Etsy?

Jordan December 3, 2011 18 Comments

We got a note recently from a Wallingford-based artist who sales her work on Etsy, an Internet-based marketplace for handmade (and vintage) crafts and goods. What with all the gift-buying going on this time of year, we thought it would be nice to try to help keep it local, even over the Internet.

So, if you sell your work on Etsy (or otherwise sell your handmade products onlin) and you live in Wallingford, send us a link to your store and a blurb about what you do. We’ll run a round-up of all the local Etsy-ers next week. And let …

Food and Soap

Jordan December 3, 2011 Comments are off

There are a couple opportunities around Wallingford to help folks out this weekend:

Wallingford Center is wrapping up a food drive to benefit Family Works. They’ve raised 195 lbs of food and would appreciate what else you have to offer.

Salon Metro (1714 N. 45th) is collecting toiletries such as you might have collected from your last hotel visit  for the Orion Center and Youth Care Transistional Living Program to benefit the homeless and those in need.

The shelter requests unopened shampoo, conditioner, straighteners, curlers, razors, plus soap for faces and bodies. Full size or travel size from your last …

The student kicked the man and escaped to the bus, and a police report has been filed.

As we approach …

Woodlawn Santa Decking the Halls

Chris Witwer December 2, 2011 11 Comments

I love this time of year for many reasons, one of which is my annual phone chat with Woodlawn Santa (aka Sharon Ehrig), who usually leads the conversation with a rousing “Ho ho ho!” This year, she had something else to add: “Christmas is going up!”

This is great news.  Even better, Santa has a clean bill of heath this year.

You may recall that last year Santa battled breast cancer and was unable to put up her usual Christmas lights and wave at us from her front porch.  But Santa is back, albeit a bit slower than in years …
