Grab a friend and lace up your walking shoes! Sip and Stroll returns to Wallingford this Thursday, August 20th from 4 to 7 pm. This is a free neighborhood event where local shops invite everyone to come in for some refreshments and to browse.

Matt Evans of Pacific Northwest Shop (4411 Wallingford Avenue N) organizes the event. All ages are welcome, and there’s no purchase necessary—just come out, explore, and enjoy the late summer afternoon.

I wasn’t aware, but August is actually WAugust, a month-long celebration during which, for the fifth year, Washington wine growers invite everyone to “celebrate Washington wine—at winery events, with backyard shindigs, picnicking in parks with your favorite local wine, or choosing WA wine at sporting events.”

But you don’t have to leave the neighborhood to find great Washington wines. Michael Herndon, owner of City Cellars (1710 N 45th Street), will be pouring WA wines at the August Sip and Stroll. His philosophy is that “wine should be easily accessible and not overly mysterious.” City Cellars offers 100 wines under $15, along with a great selection of wine and accessories. He emphasizes that food and wine are essential to a good quality of life. Every Friday, they offer a $3 tasting from 5 to 7 pm, which includes samples of three different wines (and your tasting fee goes towards any purchase).

The full list of Sip and Stroll participants (some of whom are also celebrating WAugust):

  • Assistance League of Seattle
  • Bedrooms & More
  • Cascadia Pharmacy
  • Cedarhouse Flowers
  • City Cellars
  • Pacific Northwest Shop
  • Peti Boutique
  • Second Act Kids
  • The Sock Monster
  • Wally Pets

Wallingford Bingo ends September 30th, so don’t forget to play! Cards are still available in the shops, or print one out and bring yours along to cash in for a prize. You can find more details, along with business listings and links, on the Wallingford Chamber of Commerce website.

Whether you’re a longtime Wallingford local or just discovering the neighborhood, Sip and Stroll is the perfect excuse to slow down, sip something local, and reconnect with the community right outside your door. See you there!
